"I'D RATHER BE DRIVING MY MG - BUT IT'S IN THE SHOP" (a takeoff of an old FASPEC one).
After the last episode,I returned the GT & told the owner that I didn't want it back until it's
running right.It's been 3+ weeks,but I still haven't gotten a call from him.
The only consolation is that we've had a lot of really hot weather,& now we're getting a lot
of rain.
 
Man, I totally get your frustration. I once had my MG in the shop for over a month because of some persistent issues. It felt like they were dragging their feet. I ended up calling them regularly just to get updates. It’s a pain, especially when the weather’s all over the place.

Its not just on the less common British cars either - a couple years ago I had my Suburban in for some steering/front suspension work - they had it for 2 months. And then last year someone backed into it and crunched one of the doors - their insurance made it right but it took close to 3 months for the body work.
 
I had an oil pressue issue with my wife's Spitfire. I took it to a shop thinking if I did the work the car would off the road for several months, rather than a week or two if the pro did the work. Six months later I got the car back. The down side: lots of time in the shop I didn't expect. The up side: the problem was the cam shaft bushing. I would have put in new bearings and then wondered why there was still no oil pressure.

Mrs JP's good friend had her Toyota RAV4 in the shop for 6 months because of a window regulator that wouldn't come in - I think they finally got a used one. Likewise my aunt (in Holland) had her car waiting in the body shop for 4 months before they finally suggested a used fender.
