My up-dated 71 MGB GT

So, I had the suspension refurbished: new poly bushings all around, new rally leaf srpings in the rear, new coils in front, and heavy duty shock valves. I also had sdome Hella 500 amber fog lights put on and used an original switch put in a blank spot on the console to operate them. I'm buying the 15" Minilite replica wheels from BV one at a time because I just can't spend that much right now! I put one on with the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 tires in 195/60 to be sure of clearance and to check out the look. I think it looks great and can't wait to finish the wheels (after the holidays). Check oout the pics:

Re: My up-dated 71 MGB GT

Looks good Matt. I like the yellow fogs on a white car. Hella makes great lamps. I run 3000's on my Land Rover and they turn night to day. What's up with your Tach?

Re: My up-dated 71 MGB GT

The tach was put on by the previous owner for unkown reasons. I didn't quibble over it when I bought it. It works fine but is obviously not original. I bought a used tach off ebay and it didn't fit right, so I'm looking for a 71 tach if anyone has one. I may know someone in town who has own on hand, so we'll see.

Re: My up-dated 71 MGB GT

Matt, I have a 73 GT I'm parting out. Shoot me an email, if your interested. Does you car have the rounded or angled bezels on the guages?

Re: My up-dated 71 MGB GT

Matt....make sure the rear shock bolts go from the wheelwell into the body so the nut ends aren't protruding into the wheel space but are on the other side of the frame rail.

Re: My up-dated 71 MGB GT

John Moore-they are the rounded bezels. My mech says that the gauges look the same but changed in terms of how they connect behind them almost every gear, which makes me doubt a 73 will be compatible, but who knows. Since we're talking about parting out a GT, how does your headliner
look? Color/condition?

Oh yeah, Tony-watch what you say pal (LOL). Keep talking like that to me and I'll start raisin' some heck. I'm kidding of course, but couldn't resist. Hopefully you know I mean nothing but humor and you'll know what I'm talking about!

Thanks!

Re: My up-dated 71 MGB GT

Matt, hehehehehehe

oh, MG guages will pretty much all interchange so long as the hole in the dash is the correct size....& they're electrical to electrical or mechanical to mechanical.....& the bezels are also interchangeable

Re: My up-dated 71 MGB GT

lol! You pickin' a fight with Tony! LOL! watch out!

But yeah, I they could be swaped out like Tony said. Maybe the real early ones were different. But I think they all pulse off the coil.

I'll check out the headliner tomorrow. I've not examined it closely. As I recall, I think it's either white or grey. But I'm not sure of it's overall condition.

Re: My up-dated 71 MGB GT

You know, John...when I was 10 I delivered newspapers in the segregated south...an older black lady asked if I'd deliver her a paper as I took a shortcut on my bike past her house...that was no problem for me as my grandma had taught me about the wrongs of segregation & the way blacks were treated; however, when I went to collect my money, she chased me off her porch because I had "the mark of the devil" on me - I was left handed! When I told my grandma she said I'd been put on the earth to act as a lightning rod for people who had no outlet for their frustrations...seems some people just like to zap me for nothing! Usually I just roll over, but every now & then its hard to do so

But with Matt.....hehehehehehehe

Re: My up-dated 71 MGB GT

Oh, John, MGB GT headliners are grey.

Re: My up-dated 71 MGB GT

Matt;

Great looking car! A friend with a white 73 GT put Minilites on his as well and they look fantastic! I hope to add Minilites to my GT as well someday.
