My Hubs Won't Come Apart

I've got a great shop in town looking at my TR4A IRS axles and hubs.

They tell me they've soaked the hubs in a solvent and their best equipment so far won't pull the hubs apart.

Of course, they're being gentle.

Any advice I can give them when they go at it again in the morning?

I ran into the same situation. In the end I went with the goodparts uprated hubs. Far stronger and safer than the stock TR units.

Triumph made a special tool to separate the hubs... even then it was a bear to get them apart without damaging them.
Good advice... consider the Goodparts hubs.

As we've discussed many times, they need the factory tool or equivalent. Using a press, or worse yet a "one size fits none" hub puller will almost certainly distort and ruin the hubs before they come off.

I used a similar aftermarket tool on my TR6. I applied force with the tool until it was getting close to being excessive. Then I used a hammer to tap the u-joint yoke on the backside alternating the side of the yoke as I tapped it. Did not take much and they came apart quite easily.

BTW - When assembling the tapers clean them and make sure there are no burrs on the surface either inside or outside. The holding power of a taper comes from the mating fit of the surfaces. Most important, do not use any lubricant or anti-seize on the tapers. It is a good way to destroy them. Been there, done that.

Here are the assembly directions for Dodge Taper Locks.
