Fellow Healey crazies,

To think it's only been 8 years and the car is already in color!!!...who knew it would get to this point so fast!!

( Current status 02-10-2010 )

It's very exciting to get the car to my home shop! My goal is to have it done in time for both the Rendevous and the Conclave.....I think I can do it....

Cheers,
Steve Thomton

awsome..I am envious of the paint booth as I have painted all of my cars in the past. Do not have those facilities now so I have to rely an my "paintguy"
My e-type is ready for the color coat and he has drug his feet for 2 months.

The color sanding and buffing etc will be left for me..

congrats:

Pete

WooHoo! That's a really big step in the restoration process, and a real motivator to continue. Looks great!

However, I feel you're rushing things a bit too fast...

... you really should slow down a bit

Thanks Pete and Andrea!...I am pumped about having it in color.

Randy, you maybe right....I do feel I'm getting to much momentum!!...but I suspect the next phase will have plenty of surprises for me!

Cheers,
Steve

It looks good, I know you must be pretty excited.

After years of throwing money and time at it, it also pays dividends with The Significant Other.

Randy, oh you are so right!....now it looks like a "car" to her! She is a car buff but I push my luck a bit .

Cheers,
Steve

:driving: That is one sweet sounding Austin Healey Steve. You have a lot more expertise on modern engine design than I'll ever have. It took me 12 years to complete my BN7, without any modifications. Congratulations. Maybe I'll visit you some time this summer, we're planning on driving to Denver this June to visit our daughter.

Thanks for sharing.

Steve,
You said this in your web site narrative:

" A few words about the decision to paint the car with the doors on. I considered painting it with the doors off, as that's the other common approach. But getting the doors lined up turned out to be such a labor intensive process....which I did twice during the reconstruction process....I elected to leave them alone once I was satisfied with the alignment. I had already painted the inside of the doors and the door jams so all I really needed to do was to protect those areas from overspray. Typically Healeys are tough to get aligned.....when you go to put the doors on you will swear someone has changed all the panels during the night to mess with your mind! "

I could not agree more! My passenger door is spot on, but I have spent hours and hours on my LH driver's door and still don't have it right two years after I finished my restoration. I wish I had thought about doing what you did. I will on my next project!!!!!

I like the color!! Mine was done in Colorado Red enamel with Imron clearcoat 28 years ago. It still looks like new. I admire the amount of work you did yourself. (I had mine done).

Cutlass..... you couldn't have said it better "90 percent done, 90 percent to do"...that's exactly how I feel.

Johnny......look forward to a visit from you.

Lin/Marvin..... doors on for final paint...I struggled with this decision but happy with the choice.

TimK ..... hhmm Imron, that's really tough stuff but it'll kill you...cann't get it anymore. Ref. all the work I did myself.... I REALLY wasn't sure I should take on the actual spraying this time around. It had been 20 yrs since my last paint job. But, at the end of the day I was VERY happy I decided to do it.

Thanks to all,
Steve

Hello HealeyPassion,

Congratulations on what you've achieved so far it's looking extremely nice.

Such a great feeling to get this far. After a while it'll be difficult to remember where the time went and even what you went through to finish it.

Best regards.

bundyrum.

Steve, you know you've done a good job when you hate to cover it up with fenders etc. I think I drove the car around the yard a dozen times before I could cover it all up.

You've got a lot to be proud of.

Very funny....I probably have 40-50 miles on my car in my neighborhood....with all the body panels off! I live out in the sticks and my neighbors are very used to seeing me out for a drive in my bodyless car. They always want to know what it is.
