My Garage Door Problem

This one is a simple 6.5 foot single bay steel door with a screw drive 1/2 horse motor.

Admittedly, I was messing with it. I didn't like the apparent gap at one end, so I adjusted it.

Two days later it started to automatically rebound back up. It just won't shut. Once it hits bottom, it just pops back up just like it hit something--which it did not. I've carefully checked and I'm not seeing any way it's hitting anything.

Do you suppose it's something about how I've located the stop switch along the upper screw drive rail?

Ideas?

Check to make sure the electric eyes are aligned. If the beam isn't aligned the door will come back up.

The stop switch should be set to stop the door just before it bottoms out. If you have it set just slightly past that point the door will appear to hit something and reverse. Try adjusting the stop switch.

Mine has 2 adjustment knobs on the bottom of the unit, turn one way or the other to have it close more or less, other one adjusts the stop point when up.

I agree that there is another setting (for resistance at the bottom) that needs adjusting.
