Entered my 74 Midget in a show in Prescott, AZ over the weekend and did not do well. Car ran and performed great but the other cars in my class, a 65 and 67 Midget and a Bugeye, were much nicer. The Bugeye won as it was the best car. One thing that makes losing to the Bugeye tough is after talking to the owner for a while he confessed that he bought the car on eBay and all he has done so far is polished it. The other Midgets were restored by their owners. Just wanted to vent.

IMHO, Midgets are not for car shows, they are for driving.

Your car looks great... go out and properly enjoy the fruits of your labor!

Well, I have to agree with above.
Mostly it doesn't matter what other people think of your car. And if all it took is money to win a show, there isn't any fun or glory in that.
Be proud of what you have, confident in the knowledge that you did it yourself.
I actually think yours is quite a nice looking car from what I can remember, and I am not sure I would want to drive one that is much nicer.

Local judged shows are a popularity contest, by and large. The stories behind the cars, or even their authenticity, are not always relevant. Get out and go for a nice drive, you'll feel better.

I quite like that our local annual British Field Day is not a judged event, just a chance to show off our British cars and bikes. Makes it very relaxed and fun for all.

In my opinion, judges at local shows know considerble less about specific cars than you do.

For example I suspect I could judge Bugeyes to most everyones satisfaction. However, Midgets might be a bit guesseeeeeee. Now I am not talking concurse here.

Also hate it when they do not provide the judgeing sheet afterwards.

There's a fundamental flaw in the whole idea of auto shows: the car is being judged, not the owner. I've heard lots of stories of people who put staggering amounts of money into having work done on a car, create a spectacular show car, win lots of prizes, and never pick up a wrench. Where is the accomplishment in this?

When you do something worthwhile, yourself, you can always be proud of it. You did the work, you applied the skill and intelligence to make it what it is. Nothing else matters, especially not validation from places where that kind of effort is, frankly, not respected.

Where I live Midgets are few & far between, I have been asked to put mine in a couple shows (which I have) with no intention to win awards, nor do I hope to as Midge is just a decent "driver", but for people to enjoy - as everyone seems to get a kick out of that "little red convertible".
Any show I go to (with or without my car) I'm always hoping that someone else will have their sprite or midget there so I can enjoy - I have had my midget for almost 2 years & so far have seen only 2 other Midgets, one in the parking lot of a hardware store last spring - I was almost crawling over the car figuiring everything out & one on the back of a tow truck in snow storm (yeeeesh).
Maybe you didn't win an award but I'm sure many, many people enjoyed seeing your car, I know I would have.

sounds like most of Pebble Beach :jester: (even though I'd love to see it)

I was talked into entering the New Orleans show. Now the midget is still wearing it's original paint, and hadn't been washed or polished. But as has been said already ,people get a kick out of seeing these cars.Never won a prize, didn't care, had a ball, met Janel and lots of other people. And to me, that is what a show is all about.

Stuart.

What we are going to do at the Lake of the Ozarks for the show part is have each owner judge. We hope to have the knowledgeable folks doing the judging within their class. Maybe the best will wind up on top as judged by your knowledgeabe friends. As I understand if you have your car registered at the Lake you get to vote.

at the ABFM's in Vancouver BC and Seattle WA, there are typically THREE BE's and a box sprite. guesss which cars win, place and show? (there are getting to be more cars the past few years so the BE's compete amongst themselves. square bodies never win any prizes) In Portland OR, there are enough cars that BE's have a class of their own seperate from square bodies, but Midgets are completely seperate. their OWN CLASS at all three shows. .. does that stop me from going? no. does it stop me from shining the car up? no. does it keep me from
DRIVING and enjoying the "spriteliness" ? NO! enjoy YOUR car.

Thank you all for your support. It is a total gas to drive. Here is a pic.

Tim,

Nice car!Don't feel bad - I always end up
parking next to the nicest car in my class.
I always like to go to the shows with low/no-
- expectations.That way,if you do get something,
it's a pleasant surprise.

I think that car looks gorgeous! Much nicer than my pile!

Just go and enjoy the atmosphere. That's what I plan on doing anyway. I am sure at the St. Ignace, MI show my car will be sitting next to some expensive stuff - when I eventually get it done. No biggie, I am there for fun and to show off my work. I am sure at least one person who sees it will appreciate it. That's all I care about.

I spend a lot of time at shows looking at the "diamond in the rough" class. There are a lot of interesting things to be seen. I especially like looking at creative fixes. And... it is amazing how some of the cars run and hold together.

Likewise, I am more interested in customized spridgets than stock ones. I've seen plenty of stock spridgets and they all pretty much look the same. I interested in seeing how/what people have done to the cars to increase the fun factor.
