Hi Basil and everyone else. I have finaly got around to my first post.
I am an Australian working in Japan at the moment, which makes it hard to work on and enjoy my cars, as I only return to Aus every six months for a lousy two weeks.
I own an 1969 MGB Mk2 Australian assembled, which I have owned for about 30 years and is the only pre-marrital thing I have left. I also have a 1965 Jaguar S-Type 3.8 Auto, which I hope to restore soon. Also I have just bought, probably the best car in the world, a 1987 Jaguar XJ12 series 3 Sovereign in perfect condition, lucky me.
Don't tell anyone, but I have a Mazda MX-5 ( Eunos ) in Japan. I think the MG is the better sports car, more room, more drafts, more noise and gets more wet inside, as all sports cars should.
Anyway, enough of my BS, I hope to participate in the forum more often now.
All the best, Repro.

Welcome to the forum. I haven't been around too long myself. You'll find the people here to be friendly and helpful. We learn alot and have fun.
Your opinion of the Miata matches mine. They're great fun, but I'd rather drive my MGB. Part of the adventure of driving is wondering if you'll get there and back without a breakdown LOL. My MG's generally pretty reliable. Miata's are fun, but they're not the same.
Anyway, enjoy the forums.

Hi,

Interesting that you are in Japan. I had an email from an owner of a car identical to mine, but there was an obvious language difficulty.

I asked him if there were any others there, but never received a reply.

Can you tell us how the classic car scene is in Japan and, specifically, how often S1,2,&3 Jags are to be seen?

Regards,
Paul

Paul, I have been in Japan for over two years now, and I think I have seen one XJ6 Series 3. You see a few modern Jag's and I have seen one MGF.
The problem over here is space. Most people live in appartments and only have one car parking spot, usualy in the open. So owning a classic car would be difficult.
I think there is only one MG car club in Japan, based in Osaka. So I would have to say the classic car scene would be limited, and probably only for the wealthy.
All the best, Ross.

Ross, welcome to the forum from a fellow Japan-dweller.
If you're in or around Tokyo, we could go for a drive /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif some day. Driving an MG Midget over here in Tokyo, thought about a Eunos myself but thought a Midge would be more fun. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif
Think I was right!

Carl, nice to hear from you. How did you find a Midget?
And I know your right.
I go to Tokyo fairly regualy and stay at the Toyoko Inn at Otorii near Hanada airport.
Obviously the older cars are more common in Tokyo than here in Miyazaki.
Maybe we could meet up for a beer sometime?
All the best, Ross.

Ross, sounds like a plan.
