My first Elise sighting...

[ QUOTE ]
I don't think the round headlights were "street legal" in the US

To my knowledge, they are all grey market.

Here is a street legal one that was at an Auto-x last year.

BTW none of the Enzo's have been crash worthiness tested by the government either.

@MGAdams

I'm sure it's the same car... Actually I'm starting to wonder if it's now a local car, I saw a friend's pictures from later on in the weekend and the company logo/phone number were on the side of the car.

I'll have to cruise by their shop sometime.

I don't think the government has to actually test them. The manufacturer has to crash test two vehicles and then provide the results to the gov. The crash mules are generally not counted in the final production numbers.

BTW, Caterhams have to be sold as kits or assembled in the US (final assembly) because they fail crash tests miserably. The last crash test that I heard of for a Caterham showed no appreciable deformation of the frame from a 30 mph impact. So if the car doesn't absorb the impact, guess who does? Even knowing that, I would still love to /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif the wheels off of one if I could fit into one. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Well, I am only 6'1" tall but weigh about 240 with a 38 inch waist and a 54 inch chest. Very broad sholders on me. Which doesn't matter in a seven I suppose. When I have tried to wedge myself into one I get stuck. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif Haven't tried an SV yet.

I am a snug fit in my TR's but I choose to call it comfortable. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Yes - I know exactly what you mean.
I'm fairly generously proportioned myself at 6'2 and 265...

No need for side impact beams I'd guess?

I heard that the Elise is only availible for two years before they have to put some ugly american bumpers on them or stop selling them here...

and the reason they went on the used market so quickly is due to stupid people buying it for its "cute"-ness and the hype, not realizing that its a Lotus and a drivers car. If you complain about this car being too harsh, its not the car for you (prob better suited in a less connected car - corvette, caddilac, etc).

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/iagree.gif and whole-heartedly.

I'd take 4 or 5 of them - hehehehe.
