So I just finished up a major event over several days, at the Calgary Int'l Spoken Word Festival, nine events in total throughout April six events over the last six days... Yeah...

The biggest event I've ever been a photographer, actually the first time I've been an official photographer for an event actually, but I think things went well and I got lots of networking in

What do you think?

More photos here... https://www.flickr.com/photos/sherlock77/sets/72157604419890063/ And I"ve still got lots of photos to work through...

Lookin' good, James. Congrats. It is on to bigger things for you now I'm sure.

nice!

I have some friends at work that have been bitten by the bug. They recently bought some Holgas to experiment with, and wasted some of their film on me doing stupid stuff...

Thanks Darwin!

@Rob

I've got some friends who play with Holga's (my more artistic friends), I've heard they are lots of fun...

Nicely done! Keep it up and it'll be: "We knew him when" !!!

Thanks guys!

Actually, according to one of the artists this past weekend, Calgary has the biggest Spoken Word festival in North America, certainly one of the best around... And here I'm always thinking that we're just a backwater town, still think that sometimes... Trying to get over that thought though...

Ya gotta MAKE your opportunities, James. Networking is gonna be your best tool. That and the old: "Submit, submit, SUBMIT!"

You've got talent James. I wish the best for you. There's always something in your pics that makes me take a longer look than usual.

Yeah Doc,

It was a week of major networking, having contact - on a very personal level - with some major players in the Canadian arts scene, an opportunity a person doesn't get very often, in reflection one day after the festival I have to consider myself fortunate...

Any CBC peeps in that pile?

Great to hear. Now you can finally put
a down payment on a 40+ year old Cortina!

I've noticed that with the Holga's, my friends like taking pictures of old things with them. It kind of gives the pictures a from out of time sort of feel to them.

Haha Doug...

I'm not getting that rich yet, it'll be awhile until I get into an LBC, besides I always need some better camera gear...

Hey Rob...

Holga's are popular with the more artistic crowd, I suppose they would work well with old things, does that include old people too?

James, those look great! If I were you, I'd start adding copyright watermarks to your images on the net.

Well as you know (or will find out quickly) Talent is a good start. After that it's who you know, not what you know. Seems you are on the right track on both counts.

Alan...

I know exactly what you mean, I think one of the best things to ever happen to me was meeting Sheri-D Wilson, amongst poets in Canada and Calgary she is an incredible coach and mentor, and although I'm no poet of any sort she has also been like that to me as well in terms of my interest and involvement with the local Spoken Word community and been a real cheerleader for me... The more I think about what level of Spoken Word artist (er... poets) I dealt with this past week I'm so amazed and it was a true privilege

Basil...

Duly noted...

well, in a sense you're a poet too. Though, your poetry is not in the form of audibility. Rather, the poetry you pass on is in the visual arts.
