My Farorite American Cars, What's Yours?

COBRA or CIBA engine? They had 2 types. Very popular for racing back in the day. A guy named Candy Poole had an aluminum-bodied special he called the PBX that beat a lot of bigger cars, especially on a short track. He was also a pretty good drive as I recall.

More about Poole. I Googled him and the PBX. Check it out. I found out the car is now owned by an old friend of mine formerly of Stamford, John Iglehart. He always loved small fast cars. The PBX could do 0-60 in 8.5 with a top of 118. Not bad for 45 hp. As I said, Poole was a canny and skilled driver who beat a lot of faster iron, especially on a short track.

Growing up in West Virginia, we rented 1/2 of our 2 car detached garage to the neighbor lady across the street. She parked one of these in our garage for years.

I'm still fascinated by the "built-up block" engine but the cast iron block was all I ever dealt with.
We knew Candy Poole fairly well & hung out at his shop in Glastonbury. I still have several photos of him & the PBX & was in e-mail communication with one of his kids not too long ago. Once bought a wrecked OSCA from J.D. through Poole.
...good old days etc huh?

Sorry your shutting the site down John, but we all know priorities have a lot of control of what we do. Be nice if you could bring it back in the future. Best wishes! :encouragement: PJ

Growing up on a farm, I always had a need for a truck.
