Were up this AM early as SWMBO had to fly to Edmonton. I then had an oil change booked on the car - which, by the time it was done was a new set of tires - sigh. They found 1. a nail in the rear tire which was too close to the sidewall to be repaired and 2. the front tires (one especially) had shifted belts - hence the huge vibration at 40 km. So, the good news is I now have a much safer and smoother driving car which considering almost all my driving is highway is a good thing. Besides, my mechanic actually got me a very good deal on the tires.
While I was waiting I got chatting with the owner who is an old car guy (obvious from the shop) He has 4 cars all american but was able to point me in the direction of an engine shop he has dealt with for years. Went home threw the block and head in the trunk and dropped it off hurray! I've only been waiting to get to that for 4 months.
FYI a 1500 block fits handily in a recycling blue box which keeps your trunk much cleaner and is easier to lift in and out. Should be ready mid next week he tells me which means if I need anything I can take advantage of the VB sale.
BTW I had to replace the battery in my wife's new Beetle - I finally had to pay the mechanic to do it because I could not figure out how to get the old one out - give me my LBC any time /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif
