The AVG "full" version is CHEAP (compared to the others) and VERY good, Ron. And their 8.0 release has a full compliment of tools.

I'll see if I can get that machine to load AVG, then I'll get a real setup.I have spybot. it found lots of stuff, but theres a virus in there really slowing things down. Scans take forever, webpages dont load, everything is just chugging along. it's like the computer has a misfire.
Worst case I'll try to transfer important data to our usb harddrive, then put the new hard drive I have into that machine and relaod it from scratch.
 
Make sure you scan that USB hard drive thoroughly before connecting it to a clean computer. I usually try to completely sanitize a system before wiping it clean, just to make sure there is no trace of anything 'bad' in the backups.
 
Very good point Steve. Shut the computer down last night, I'm on it now. seems to be a lot faster at the moment, but I just got home with a paid for copy of McAfee total protection. Jumping off to load it now.
