My Carb Broke!

I mean it literally broke:

Any ideas as to why this happened? I was tightening it back on to the manifold and it simply split. I wasn’t really forcing it or anything either.

Now what are my choices in getting a new carb? Should I look for a used ZS? Or one of the moss conversion kits?

I'm sure Tony probably has a rebuildable one in this parts supplies somewhere. There's some guy in the UK that's selling "New Old Stock" Zenith carbs on eBay too.

If you don't have to worry about emissions, this might be the perfect opportunity to upgrade/retrofit twin SUs...

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif Ouch. Right now Tony's your best bet as he's been hoarding all the ZS carbs on the planet. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

OUCH!! & you've got a PM....how's your choke assembly?

One of the reasons it might've doen that is you don't have a heat shield between it & the manifold...& it appears you left the spacers out also...if the carb's too close to the catalytic converter & manifold, it could crack.

I sent you a paypal, thanks for the quick reply.

By spacers to you mean the heater spacer? because I did have that in place.

The heater spacer & the heat shield both

From here it looks as if there was a pre-existing crack in the casting: Some discoloration along the fracture, a darkening at the center with a perpendicular crack... you likely just found the "last straw", as in enough stress to run it the rest of the way.
