I've kinda been away from the forum for over six months while I was undergoing treatment for my rectal cancer as first mentioned in this thread back in September of last year.
A lot has gone on since then. I went through radiation and chemo treatment to shrink the tumor before surgery. I had the surgery in the beginning of January, spent a month in the hospital, because my "guts" wouldn't wake up after surgery. Had a lot of pain and drainage problems (still have some) in the rectal area which kept me down for quite awhile. Then, when I was feeling good enough to go back to work, I fell down and broke my right leg. Back in the hospital, and more time at home.
Finally, after all of this, I saw my oncologist yesterday for the first time since before I had the surgery. For some reason, the doctor that did the surgery won't tell you the whole story. Oh, he told me things looked good, but that was about it. Anyway, I was concerned about what follow-up treatment I would need, and the oncologist showed me on a flow diagram according to the pathology supplied by the surgeons, etc. Fourteen lymph nodes showed NO cancer, so the course of treatment is to "OBSERVE". Sweet words, or rather word that was. For now, they'll schedule periodic scans, and "observe".
I'm a happy camper today...
