My buddy is dying

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cryin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cryin.gif me too

I think I can understand, Basil. Our baby, Wrigley, was with us about 13 years. Our dogs are our children. Long story short, it was best for Wrigley and for us to let her go to sleep peacefully. I truly believe the last look she gave me was one of gratitude.

I'm sorry to hear about this as well, Bas. We went thru this a year and a bit ago when Joe, our sixteen year old Cocker Spaniel, died. I'm with Walt when he says that it's important to make sure Chance knows you still care for him. It's something I've always felt is important, both for people and pets who are ailing.

Since I'm reasonably sure you're the person Chance thinks you are, I don't think it'll be a problem!

I'm so sorry to hear about this Basil. Our dog became very ill with cancer a few years ago. The first time we operated and he lived happily for a couple years. The second time it was going to cost thousands of dollars and he would only get a few months out of it. It was a very difficult decision but we decided to have him put down to end his suffering.

Try not to dwell on the sadness of the situation, but rather focus on the great times you have been given by him. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Looks like our decision may be sooner than later. Poor fellow is going downhill fast. He's skin and bones now and has almost no appetite. I'll be calling the vet Monday to get a read, but my guess is we will take him in sometime in the next few days. This is going to be hard. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Never fun when it gets down to this. We'll be thinking of you, Basil.

Do it, you will sleep better knowing you did the right thing for him.

And yes I know.

He was put down at 11:10AM this morning. I stayed with him through the whole thing. He went very peacefully and just lay down as if he new what was coming and was thankful. Afterword I could not talk for an hour. On the one hand I'm very sad that we had to do this, but on the other, I know it was best for him.

Basil

I'm sorry to hear this news, and can only offer my sympathy and condolences.

~wipes a tear away~

I'm so very, very sorry Basil. Have a huge hug.

I've been with two of my dogs when the vet "put them to sleep" - and it is just like that. He was always there for you, and now you've completed the circle.

Here's to Chance: /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

Sorry to hear it, Basil.

Been there done that, and it is the best way even if I have tears in my eyes think about it.

Now put his Pic on the home page.

Geez... there aren't words... not adequate ones, anyway.

it's so hard... keep him alive in your heart, remember him and he will make you smile again in spite of the events of the recent days.

I'm off to hug my own "kids" now. Sooo saddened, so sorry.

The thing about a good dog is, they don't care if you're black, white or purple, or what your party affiliation is, or anything else.

As long as you love them, they love you back unconditionally. This fella was really special. He showed up starving to death on our doorstep one day about 6 years ago and we adopted him. I have no doubt that whatever life he had was better as a result of that meeting. We named him Chance because when we adopted him we gave him a "chance" at a decent life off the streets. He turned out to be a really great friend. Ah crap, there I go tearing up again...

Basil

Basil, I am very sorry to hear about your friend. I can scarcely imagine life without two terriers accompanying me around the house. You both are in my prayers, friend.

This is how we feel about our dog too, even my wife who was completely opposed to getting one. Now he's her best friend and companion.

You get back so much more than you give.

I'm so sorry, Basil.
