My 58 Sprite is painted

Congrats, Frank. That looks really good. Glad you got to the painting this weekend. I'm in awe, as always.

I know the answer (from another list)
Single stage urethane
Everything in his shop is the color of the last car he painted.
I guess the paint from previous paint jobs helps hold the dust on the shelves.

Wonder who helps him move that bonnet around. As I have not met Frank maybe he is just a moose of a man. Certinaly is in the metal and paint business.

Is this the one that was lying on it's side, with barely a pulse a couple of months ago?
Great work!

It is.

So supposing I were to decide to do this myself on ncbugeye, could anyone give me technique ideas and rough estimates of time required, assuming limited skill on my part (I'm a software guy who is into woodworking), and that no panels need replacing...
<ul>[*]strip all parts off to a bare shell
[*]make a rotisserie or stand (?)
[*]go right back to the bare metal on the tub
[*]fill holes and smooth off
[*]prime [/list]I would then want to take it to somebody to have the top coat(s) put on as this is the part that would scare me most.

I have the Haynes book "MG Midget & Austin-Healey Sprite Restoration Manual" by Lindsay Porter.

The shell is light. Saw horses work well.

Sand blasting is the way to go on the tub. then two part epoxy primer, then body work.

To do the bottom roll it up on its side with padding like an old mattress maybe.

Pay to have the sandblasting done and the primer. Then you are in business, you can paint the bottom and engine room your self if you wish for practice.

Way to go Frank looks more like a car with every update pic would also like to know where u painted it. great work. Mark

yeah, as usual, you leave us all in the dust...the amount of (beautiful) body work you've done on that poor rusted thing is /astounding/, and makes me /horribly/ jealous..But it looks so fabulous, I can't wait to see more, lol!

Looks great, nice to see another one saved.

Patrick

Really nice. The recent trend with all you guys re-doing your cars is to go with White, eh!

you mean to tell me that's the car that was on it's side rusted top to bottom, front to back just a couple of months ago with pics on this site. WOW. that is unbelievable!
