I just received a fun little device for my camera. It's a suction cup mount /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif This thing is pretty neat. I can't wait to try it out this weekend /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Angeles Crest is in my back yard /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

However, new scenery is alway welcome /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Rob, that's a fun accessory!
One wee tip, plug in an external mic and lay it on the passenger seat, otherwise over 30mph you'll get nothing but wind noise, not engine noise.
Post them vids!

no chance of there being an external mic... yet. I'll be "filming" with my digital camera. If I get too in to using this contraption, I may start eyeballing a digital camcorder with an internal hard drive...

So, for the time being, I believe I'll just tape some foam over the mic, if the wind noise gets too unruly.

of course! that was the main reason I bought this thing... So I can "set it and forget it" and concentrate on driving /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Stewart,
What type of wheels and what size tire you running on that 1975 Titanium Grey Metallic MGB? She sits nice.

Those are GREAT tires! I have 'em on the Alfa now. Very effective rain spreaders, for sure.

in my search for my next set of tires, I was initially going to get Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS "Pole Position" tires. However, there appears to be a nation wide shortage of these tires in the 195/60-15 size. So, I've fallen back to Bridgestone Potenza RE0009 195/60-15s.

Anywho, in some of my spare time this week I got to window shopping "Camcorders", and I am impressed in the advancements in technology that's been made there. You can get them now that encode in "AVCHD" which is a form of H.264 video encoding, which is the codec used to encode HD-DVD and Blue-Ray discs. There are Camcorders that can record 1920x1080p to an internal Hard Drive, or to SDCard! One of the units I was eye balling recorded to SDCards only. Neat stuff Maynard!

I wonder how fast a 4 gig SD card would fill up at HD quality. Does the camera come with a speed loader?

I kinda fancy the 30GB hard drive units, just for the fact that you can get a lot more footage in a single sitting.

I hear the SD Card units are very light, and the fact that the only moving parts are for the less system makes them a bit more durable than tape or HDD units; or so they say anyways. I think I read about one that was even water resistant...

The internal hard drives are pretty good, but like any hard drive they can be susceptible to bumping or vibration. Sony has a nice HD 60gb unit I've been eying up.

Whole thing blows my mind. We've two Sony Beta cams... started with Arri's 16mm, 400' mags, battery belts, sticks. Now a ~thing~ the size of a cigarette pack (and about th' same mass) has more capability.

gah. The amounts of money we've wasted astounds me. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wall.gif

planned obsolescence! Doncha luv it? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Suction cup mounts are fine and dandy, I prefer the "pretty girl in the passenger seat" camera holder. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif
