1968 Series 1.5 Jaguar XK-E 2+2

I inquired about this...and the owner has already indicated his willingness to go lower on price....What would you say one would expect to pay for a car like this? And secondly what should I offer?

Thanks

Just some thoughts....
It's a 2+2, open headlight, automatic transmission E-type. Many consider this the least desireable of those made. Add to that that the car was once red, as the engine framework is red not white. I don't know, maybe $10K?

What do you want to do with this car? If for a weekend driver, probably worth it in the long run (I assume the price is Canadian Dollars). If you are thinking restoration, add another $30,000 (American Dollars) to get to your goal. The primary weakness of these cars is the rocker panels (always rusted) and the front space frame. After 40 years, it is reasonable to expect that some parts of the square tube frame will have rusted from the inside out. Replacements are available but expensive. As the square tube frame holds up the middle of the car, it can be very important at speed. Best of luck.

More importantly where and how much rust is there. Have an expert look at it.The floors and more importantly the rear radius arm mounts are very prone as well as the sills. Repair of the r/arm mounts is critical and often botched by DYS 'experts'.From the pics it looks as if alot of work has been done under the bonnet-the firewall has been cleaned up etc. If you can't find anyone in Toronto try Brian Cullingford of Cullingford Motors Ferndale Dr Barrie a real guru in this area.If you get into restoration $30K would be cheap. Having said that the 2+2 is in my view underrated and worth following.

I've never really been a fan of the 2+2, I had a 70 roadster back in the late 70's and loved it. Right now I am definatly not looking for anything in particular, I just like to buy whatever comes my way.....I made him an offer of 10k and he has counter offered 14k.....I think I'll stick to my initial offer and see if he decides to change his mind later on down the road.

10k is probably the most I'd ever pay for a 2+2 Automatic - inarguably the least desirable EType model. But, it is an EType and if a good example could be had for a very reasonable price I might consider one. Just don’t expect to make anything on it compared to what you may have to put into it. And as has been recommended – look at it very closely – look everywhere for rust or signs of “covered up” rust as these cars are notorious for rusting!

In that case I'll stay away from it, the last thing I need is another project. Got a lead on a Vette so that should get me over the Etype.

:ack: Save the e-type! After everyone let's the 2+2's rot in the weeds, your's will be worth loads!

Well my offer of 10k always stands....should he change his mind i guess i'll save it.

I'd pass on this car. Too much $$ to restore it and chances of eventual recovery are low. If it had a manual trans. I'd say anything under $12k would be ok. With an auto it will always be a tough puppy to love.

Re: Other's comments about rust: obviously if it has serious rust you should pass. Unless you're the type that loves a challenge. The front frame can be completely replaced with aftermarket new if that is a concern. You can even have the picture frame stamped with the car #. It just bolts on and they're not that pricey. Sills and doors get pricey but all major panels are available in the aftermarket.

In my opinion, on an e-type it's the motor that'll kill ya. A proper ground up re-build on a 4.2 XK engine, blueprinted can run well upwards of $12k (don't ask). You can even swap out the auto trans if you're so inclined. All it takes is money. Find an S1 FHC and the cost of a resto makes more sense. Cheers!

Who actually loved a 1969 Ford Torino? Back then? 10 years later? 20 years later? How come they are some of the hottest selling cars now?
