Does anyone have a suggestion for exhaust muffler? When I got my car, it had a single glasspack, and sounds horrible.

Ansa or maybe a custom exhaust. I had a 2" straight pipe with a single 12inch glass pack at the rear and it sounded great. If you do get a custom exhaust and you live in a place where you dont want/have a cat on your car, tell them it is a pre 74 MGB otherwise you are required to have one put on by law.

I recently replaced my muffler (which was split from scraping too many driveway aprons) with a stock muffler. When I got it and climbed under to install it, I was surprised to find a stainless steel system down there /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif The problem was, the stock muffler wasn't the same fit as the stainless one and I had to cut off a piece of the old muffler pipe to fit the stock muffler to the stainless tail section. The moral of this story is that not all systems are the same, and mixing one type to another may result is some creative engineering to fit it all together. Not only do you need to match the size and length, but make sure you have male to female connections on all the joints.

Even though I missed the growl of the split muffler, after time the stock muffler developed into a nice sound...took about 2 months, but I like it now.

I recently had a local shop install a new 'universal' catalytic converter, and a Flowmaster muffler. The result is an exhaust note that's sounds sweet and rumbly but isn't over bearing to the passengers in the car (normally barely audible with the hardtop on). I really like the sound of it when I'm engine breaking going down hills or just down shifting while stopping... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I replaced my stock exhaust diverter I would say exhaust system but not much made it to the end of the pipe with the Moss stainless steel big bore system and I'm really happy with it. For a 4 cylinder engine it sounds really good. It has a deeper but mellow sound than the stock system did and is a bit louder but in that good way. They also welded a plate from the pipe to the lip of the muffler can to keep it from catching on bumps or road debris which I thought was a nice touch.

My 75B did not have a cat. on it and I had no problems getting the entire system replace at the shop I took it to though I did have to convince Moss that my car did not have a factory catalytic converter.

Hey guys, I really appreciate your ideas. Maybe someday I'll have enough experience with my B to offer others advice. For now I feel strictly like a consumer of your great ideas. Thank you.
