Due to serious medical reasons, which are many, we have to have Muffin :love:, put to sleep. A long 9-year illness from diabetes, she has liver and kidney dysfunctions on top of everything else along with Ketoacidosis which there is no cure! I have to force-feed her with a syringe I won't go into all the details, but there are many. Very heartbreaking to say the least!! She is like one of our kids, tears me up to do this, she doesn't know who we are anymore. :cry:

The illness is rotten news. What's coming up soon is a nearly impossible thing to do, despite its being "for the best".

The memories of years with Muffin will bring both tears and laughs.

So sorry for you loss Paul. Dang they look a whole lot like the two, brother and sister, we lost a few years ago. I understand your pain.
 
Muffin would sleep tight alongside my pillow at bedtime, by habit I would unconsciously pet her every night before going to sleep, which I'll miss terribly. Appointment in one hour with her vet of many years. I thought letting her go would be harder than our cat of 19 years and it will be! Her care was a 24/7 thing and restricted us from doing many things, but it might sound crazy, I'll miss that time with her. :cry:
 
So very sorry Paul. It is never easy to let a beloved pet go. We've had to make that har choice more than I care to remember and it never gets any easier.
 
yeah, 15 years ago the wife and i did subcutaneous fluid injections for a house cat in kidney failure for about 9 months. my step-cat (if i wanted to marry the girl, the cat came in the deal). either pets are cattle and you shoot them when they get sick (not) or they are members of the family and you take care of them until the quality of life is irretrievably gone. RIP Muffin.

Sorry to hear that you are having to make that decision.
I fully understand what you are dealing with as we had to do the same thing a couple of years ago. Sammie was in end stage retinal failure.

About the only thing harder than letting them go is watching them suffer. That has been the only way I can get through the process, realizing that they are suffering every hour they live beyond the appropriate time. Letting them go and giving them relief is painful, but truly the right thing to do. It still hurts.
 
Thanks to everyone for your kind words. I've never been closer to any pet than Muffin. It'll take a long time for the pain to ease off but she will be with me in my heart forever! 😢

If you have a pet that you love, have their glucose checked, even though they appear to be very healthy, because diabetes can creep on them without you even knowing it and when it shows, it could be too late! Muffin initially just stopped eating and after a visit to her vet (who saved her life), it took a year to get her back to somewhat normal. 9 years of 24/7 care with 2 shots of insulin every day at the same time, multiple visits to the vet, and medication bills were outstanding! She went blind and we took her to a specialist who did cataract surgery and gave her sight back in one eye which she was excited to be able to see again, and so were we! We called her our million-dollar pup, which I don't think was very far off! Crazy as it might sound, we didn't have pet insurance so all out of pocket! PJ
 
Sorry just one more time, I won't post this anymore. Buried here on our property in a dry, strong, sealed coffin in her favorite little bed, the wife ordered this Granite headstone for her grave. Lovely what they can do with stone. :cry:

When our last feline passed I SWORE there'd be no more cats. Planting them, they don't grow back. All but one is on the back property, headstones as well. All dearly missed and lovingly remembered. We had our dear Glitch cremated. She HATED to be outdoors, so she's in the hovel here with us.
 
By the time we lost our last 4-legged friend, I thought I was a little too "long-in-the-tooth" to dig another proper hole in the back yard. I had him cremated and can dust off his nice little box mostly daily in my bedroom. We do get very attached to them.
 
Well, it's been two weeks now since Muffin's demise and we are coping the best we can, very hard! But we are encountering another situation, her half-sister Precious constantly looks for her and at times looks at us and whines, wondering where muffin is! We try to keep her occupied with walks and playing ball with her, her favorite playtime thing, but she's not the same. I hope she comes out of this, but it will take some time as they were together for 12 years day and night! Hoping for the best. :rolleyes2: PJ
