WEll I did it. I go the midget out. out of the storage shed, and half way across the yard. There he sits pretty as anything. Only 1 small problem. There is mud to the rockers on both sides. Need a tow rope and a truck to pull it out. Tomorrow. When cooler heads prevail. Or I will break something!!!!!

breathe - drink beer - breathe - drink beer

Repeat as necessary. Usually many times here.

Too bad it is not a horse, It could be a mudder!

just don't let that midget start looking like a 4X4 now.

Famous redneck last words "here, hold my beer, watch this."

morning,,, 8 beer empty...feel fine, buddy coming with a 4x4 and a tow rope.

Where is a good place at the front end to tie a rope to pull it out? There are no tow hooks there. I do not want to hurt Sparky.

I looked out side this morning and laughed.......

stupid is as stupid does.....

well Forrest, lots folk pull their front bumpers and use the mounting points for towing. I have tie down plates that are mounted where the bumpers bolt to the front rails. - you might want to confirm?

take a pic before you do anything!

no hooks no loops no plates just the frame and axles. I really do not want to pull on the bumper. But if I put the rope around the bumper where it bolts to the car it may be strong enough. I will be doing this in about 2 hrs when the mud softens up a bit more,, and it will be done very very slowly.

It is a light car and I dont think it will take much to get it out. Just some gentle encouragement

Im a bit uneducated on the earlier years but anytime I have to pull my 78 I always try to do it from the back. There is actually tow plates in the back on mine yet the rear also offers a bit more solid components to grab onto. I stay away from the bumpers as well. The question is can you get at it from the rear?

no the back is not going to work. The drive way is near the front and the back is pointing away. the neighbours yard (fenced ) prevents me from going there.

I have to
a) get strong friends and lift/push it out (by holding the fenders over the ) while standing in 3 inches of mud
or
B) trust the support brackets on the inside of the bumper is strong enough for a rope,
or
C) turn the car into a planter, and forget about the pool.

You see the reason there is mud is because the above ground pool (which comes down for the winter) sits where the midget is currently stuck. Right in the middle of an 18 foot diameter mud circle. I was too hasty to get the car out this year. I should have waited another week or two, or a week or two earlier when the ground was still frozen.

Buddy on the way.... I'll let you know soon. The pictures I took are too big to attach, how do I insert them ?

Suggestion:
Might use the 4x4 as an anchor..use a strap and a 2-3 Ton come-a-long so you can SLOWLY pull on it and watch for any ill effects.

Those front brackets are kinda flimsy..If you have to pull on them, I'd try to get as straight as possible with the strap to truck..any angle and I think you'll see the mount deflect and put a nice dent in your front panel (facia?)

If you go under the front and attach to something(?)..watch for the angle of the strap..when you pull it might crush the lower lip of the front panel..especially if the lower part of the car is at ground level...not as if they sit high anyway, but sounds like this is worse than normal!

Just some "watch outs" to look for.

Good luck gettin her out.

64, yup used a come along,, and 2 1x6 fence boards in front of the rear wheels, looped the rope around a cedar to keep it straight on to the front of the car, and around the bracket on the back of the bumper, and the 4x4 out in the driveway. Ratchet,, ratchet ratchet..and slowly watched the wheels come up out of the mud. Got about half way out and slacked off, and changed the rope to the other side of the bumper to keep things square, and in about 10 minutes he was in the drive way, none the worse for mud, just dirty. OOOh Boy glad thats over.

Now to find out where all the brake fluid went over the winter....out somewhere..new cylinders in the back, fronts were checked last august..time for a beer and and hose to clear off some mud first.

Hey Duncan! There is always beer in the fridge.
Hmm this year is new brake hoses, fix the emergency flasher, rear shock conversion, fix the rad shroud and maybe just maybe a generator to alternator conversion. Plus what ever else needs doing as the year progresses. Did the Gunson Colour tune work for you?

Been keeping track of the work you have done on Milo, he must be turning into a chick magnet now.

Chick Magnet hehehe - Or did you mean some other kind of chick?

Hopefully the brake fluid didn't end up on the driver's side floor. I had that happen one year. :-( Not really sure why it happened.
