Mounting ignition switch to XKE series 2 steering column?

Hello all,

I am trying to remove the A/C unit that sits under the dash of my 1969 XKE roadster and restore the dash to its original appearance (A/C is not functional anyway). I've found all of the trim needed including the radio console but I am unable to find any part that permits me to mount the ignition switch to the steering column. The switch is currently mounted to the front panel on the A/C unit and of course that mount will no longer be available once the unit is removed. There is nothing on my steering column I could find that would permit the switch to be attached.

Any ideas, suggestions, solutions from members of the forum would be very much appreciated.

Thanks!

Here is how the switch is mounted to the column on my 69 S2:

Looks like there is a metal plate sandwiched in there that accepts the tumbler & casing.

Hmm...mine looks a lot different underneath (see pic below). Can you tell how that metal plate is attached to your steering column? Is it bolted separately to something already on there or is it mounted to the column itself?
Thanks Geo!

Looks like the column goes right through it and there is that single bolt holding in position. It does not seem to completey surround the colum, there appears to be a gap where the wiring loom passes through in this shot:

I have never had the column about so I cannot tell you more.
