I was just on the mini mania site to see what 1275 motor I have, and I can't find my ID marks on the site. I have a 12C/DA/H 12806 on the block. I know my distributor is out of a Mini Cooper S.

According to Horler, Sprite/midget motors have numbers 12CC Oct 66 to Jan 68, 12CD Jan 68 to Aug 69, 12CE Jan 68 to Aug 71, and 12CJ Aug 69 to Jul 71. I'm not sure what a 12C motor is! Could it be a Mini? Or is it in your car? Obviously not a mini.

Those are the codes stamped on a steel plate riveted on the motor, on the side just below the head by the thermostat housing . On the intake side there is a number cast in to the block 12G1279 way down low, which says a 1275 MG motor, if thats a number that is used to ID the motor. So I guess which number means what?

The "normal" correct number to I.D. the engine is the plate riveted to actually the top surface of the cylinder block, right above the generator/alternator. I just do not see any reference to the 12C beginning number/letters in the engine #. All indications you have a 1275 engine, but which one I do not know. Anyone else know? do you have the threaded inlet ports on the cylinder head, next to the spark plug holes?

Sprite Mk4/ MG Midget Mk3, 12CD or 12CJ N. America
I'm wondering if the "/" is in the wrong place on your tag?

I do have the threaded inlets for emissions stuff. And thats the tag I pulled the numbers off.
