Moto Lita Wheels for "Honkies"

I installed a wood rimmed Moto-Lita wheel on my car the other day and I had to disconnect the horns because when I turn the steering wheel, the horns start honking. Not bad to let everyone know that you're turning, although I prefer the blinkers. Otherwise, the wheel looks great and I could probably just get one of those old rubber and brass horns for emergencies.

I suspect it has something to do with the spring loaded horn connection that came with the wheel, but I haven't tried to fix it yet.

Has anyone ever had this problem...anyone...honkies!

Thanks

I wonder if it could be the bushing around the upper part of the steering column, inside the cowl ?

Re: Moto Lita Wheels for "Honkies"

Same thing I had happen when I put a Moto Lita on. You are probably grounding the back of the Moto Lita hub to the horn plate, aggravated by bushing wear as poolboy notes. You can get around this by moving the upper column forward very slightly - loosen the clamp where the upper and lower columns tie together near the bulkhead, and pull forward very slightly. Tighten back up, and enjoy. Worked for me, anyway!

Re: Moto Lita Wheels for "Honkies"

Had similar occurrence on my Momo wheel. What I did was, I had a variety of o-rings. Found one the size of the hub, removed the wheel, glued the oring to the hornplate where it had been contacting the wheel. Instant insulator. Plus there was no increase in gap between the wheel and the column(esthetics).

Something else to consider.
