My wife's 2014 Outback has a vacuum gauge disguised as an "MPG" gauge. Floor the accelerator, the gas goes all the way to Negative. Close the throttle, swings all the way to Positive. I've been trying to maximize my mpg's by keeping my foot off the gas, but the **** Subie won't move. How about they stick something usefull like an oil pressure gauge in there?
 
You're BJ-7 is your yardstick. 1/4 trottle is probably faster acceleration that the Suby at full.
 
Speaking of gauges, the gas gauge on my 07 Sante Fe has gone south. Sometimes it seems to read correctly, other times it shows less than I have ( or even empty). Cost to repair? Between $400-$500!!!

I had the same problem on my 6. The float was full of gas so it was always reading empty. A new float was all it took to fix. Obviously I don't know if your Sante Fe has the same problem, but it's worth looking into since the symptoms are the same.
 
Most the fuel reading problems on newer cars are because of the ethanol eating stuff away
When the Safari gets to around 1/3rd it gets wonky
 
Most new cars have that. I had it on my '08 Subaru as part of the little computer. I've got one on the Jetta, too. Most stop at 99 mpg, but not the Jetta. When you coast you get 215 mpg. It's pretty much downhill from the gas station where I usually fill up, so I end up with amazing average mileage stats on the way home. Best I did was a 71 mpg average. It eventually sorts out as you drive more. It's nice to see how the car is doing on an average, but instantaneous readings are pretty much useless.
 
Black vinyl electrical tape and a sharp xacto blade.
Fixes those silly things every time.
 
Billy- He can bring the Santa Fe to my house and use the lift to change it.
All I ask is I get to keep the fuel he has to drain to accomplish it
 
Vacuum gauges suck........
Bas, The $$$ of your repair is likely in the labor to replace it. Being a 4wd ( I assume) it probably has a "saddle" tank that requires the rear suspension to be lowered to get to the tank. Or it's just expensive a$$ parts!!
 
Oh I didn't say you drop the tank.I figured it was on the side so you had to empty most

Aww, c'mon guys! I love the vacuum/eco gauge in my '87 325i! It's fun messing with it on longer drives, then comparing that and the average reading on the on-board computer to the calculated odometer/gallons at each fill-up.
