TR2/3/3A Most likely Trafficator Problem

Yesterday went for a short ride that included one left hand turn before I stopped. Used turn signal and all seemed to operate normally and the signal was cancelled. However, after I stopped I noticed both turn signal lights on the left side were still on, cancel arm in center position and no flashing or indication. Disconnected the wire from the trafficator and the lights went out so I made it home without turn signals. After arriving home connected the wire and left turn lights came on. Moved the turn signal selector for a right turn and worked normally then moved selector for a left turn and the lights blinked while staying on. In other words they never went out and the blink was a slight change in light intensity. I've now disconnected the wire and removed the battery ground. Before I tear into the control head, does anyone have any idea what wire or wires may have gotten crossed and are feeding the left turn signal lights all the time?

I would start by assuring that the fixture for that lamp is well grounded. As I recall those lamps have a separate ground wire that goes back to the double clip near the horn (same clip as headlamp ground). That connection may be suspect as well as the connection to the fixture itself.

Began troubleshooting and it seems the horn wire has shorted with the left turn signal wire either in the control head or somewhere along the wires leading into the engine compartment. Removed the horn wire leading from the control head and the lights went out. Turn signals work in both directions so, without further work, I can have turn signals and no horn or horn and no left turn signal. Right now will consider working further or, just go without a horn. Don't recall the last time I had to use a horn anyway.

That horn sound is one if the things I like best about the TR3!

Went to Lowe"s today and purchased a "moment contact switch". Just happen to have a hole in the dash originally for the windshield washer which I'm not going to use. It fits perfectly. Plan to run wires from there to the horn power and will have a horn. Just won't be on the control head in the steering wheel.
