Iconic British Cars

I'm kinda fond of the Cortina myself, but hey, to each their own.

Hmmmm?

In truth I'd say that, for modern times, the Mini is more iconic than 007's car.

And if we want to include cars from all ages, I'd have to say that MG "T" series cars and the first Austin Sevens are truly among the most iconic Brit-cars.

I guess it depends on what "iconic" means?

Maybe a London cab should have been considered too.

While I've never been a big fan of *driving* Cortinas, I thought that at least the Mk 1 and Mk2s looked decent. The newer Cortina pictured doesn't even look good to me.

By the way, I've actually seen that copper-coloured Mini with all the pennys stuck to it. I've seen that particular Blower Bentley too.

Very surprised that the MGB and Spitfire weren't on the list. Even though I don't own one, I can think of no other cars more associated with British motoring than the B and the Spit. In fact, six times out of ten, regardless of which car I'm in, someone asks if it's an MGB. Four times out of ten they ask if it's a Spitfire. But perhaps that's the American perspective.

When I think of Brit cars the first one that comes to mind is the London taxis!

Not very sexy, but certainly iconic.

I know it's not a car but how can you think of England and not think of the double decker buses?

In the UK at the time, the MGB was hard to take seriously, and the Spitfire similarly. Both would get blown away by a half-decent Mini Cooper, especially an 'S', and a sorted Spridget was the better choice if you wanted a cheap Brit 2-seater.
No, they weren't iconic - in a later age we'd probably have called the "hairdressers cars"!

Minis, Cortina GTs, Escorts, Imps etc. were the life-blood of UK car clubs.

I was talking with my coworker earlier today, and I told him if I ever got into the position of owning a TR2 or a TR3, I'd be torn whether to stick with the Triumph, or look into an E Type Jag. Series 1, 1.5, or 2 of course. For some reason the Series 3 just doesn't appeal to me.

The best and the worst... though having had a Cortina like the one shown it's hard ot believe it qualifies as anything other than a stereotypical "Dad's Car" suitable for the wife & 2.4 children and suburban living... they sold zillions of 'em, for decades....
