Most Dangerous City in US

I'll tell you what Tony. I'll take my chances in St. Louis ANY day over some of the towns I've been in and through in Alabama...

Basil, they reversed the number on Albuquerque - its 279th from "safest"!

[/ QUOTE ]

That does it, I'm leaving! (NOt really).

I do remember that STL was a fairly "high crime" place when we lived near there, though we personally never had any problems. (I was a little nervous though when I ran out of gas one night in a run-down neighborhood in "East" St Louis).

Basil

You guys are wussies.

I used to hitchhike to ESTL to go shopping when I was in high school. In my hippie daze. I stopped for gas in ESTL less than 2 weeks ago at 10:30 at night on the way back from Sarah's. (going down Washington Ave and across the Eads Bridge is much quicker)

You ought to write the authors of the article and tell them their data is flawed /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Hey, Alabama didn't get off free either...Birmingham is 6th worst, Montgomery 74th worst, Huntsville 93rd worst!

St Louis was also worst in 2002 & 4th worst year before last...so, its been up there for quite some time

233 from "worst"/139 from "best"...don't think marijuana is usually considered 'violent' crime...though its use might possibly lead to such crime.

[/ QUOTE ]

I guess crime rates didn't figure into Money's statistics. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

While our Marijuana is supposedly nationally known (along with the special intrest group in Colorado desperately trying to legalize it, they got it on the statewide ballot this year, got it passed in Denver last year) we also have a healthy (pun intended) Meth-Amphetamine culture. As does just about anywhere anymore. That culture does tend to be a bit more violent.

Thanks for the info Tony.

Nevada's the most dangerous state in which to live - 3rd year in a row! North Dakota stayed the safest state again this year.

I just might Basil. I figure they all live in some mamby-pamby gated community anyway.

Tony. Birmingham's 6th? Hmmm, let's see. STL's population is 2.8 million. Birmingham's is 231 thousand. That makes STL 12 times 'bigger.' Per capita, Birmingham is a lot more dangerous.

Nope, flawed comparison..."...the study looks at crime only within St. Louis city limits, with a population of about 300,000. It doesn't take into account the suburbs in St. Louis county, which has roughly 980,000 residents." Same with Birmingham, Montgomery & Huntsville - cities proper only - they only considered crime within the city limits leaving out the majority of the residents in those areas also.

& I'm not afraid to admit: there are areas in all 3 of those Alabama cities where I wouldn't venture at night - even with my .45!

Naw Basil they wouldn't listen. Me thinks she be still runing arround in a "Daze" and it ain't like it wuz back in those days.---Keoke- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

Sorry, your chain was just hanging there - had to yank it /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

You carry a .45? I have a gun, my dad's Ruger. BFG. And yes I can shoot it. Well. Would I carry it IF we had the 'right to carry?' No.

And I'll shut up now before this turns political.
/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angel.gif

We have right to carry & I have "concealed carry" license....yeah, this is too much fun without getting political!!

Thought this was an interesting statement: "The ranking, being released today, came as the city was still celebrating Friday's World Series victory at the new Busch Stadium. St. louis has been spending millions of dollars on urban renewal even as the crime rate climbs."

And Alabama is way up on the list of 'per capita deaths by firearms.' Go figure.

Actually, below national averages! Because the dirtbags don't know which of us is carrying! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
