MGB MOSS's EFI kit for ZS MGBs

Hey Gang,

Well I just got the winter British Motoring, was happy to see that MOSS has been diligently working on their EFI Kit for the 75-80 MGBs. According to the article the kit is intended as a direct replacement for MGBs currently running the much-hated Zenith Stromberg setup and is scheduled for release this spring.

When I first caught wind of the EFI kit, one of my biggest concerns – was if it would meet the strict California emissions standards. Well it turns out their prototype has already been certified. While they did see some HP improvements with the EFI. It wasn’t really intended as a performance upgrade so much as a means of improving reliability and day-to-day drivability.

The only real issue I see is if the current owner (or the previous owner) had already removed the old ZS setup for something else like say a Webber or a Dual SU setup. But this shouldn’t be such a big concern because chances are if you’ve gone this route you’re not concerned about emissions testing in your area and are better off sticking with what you have.

Price? MOSS is saying it should be about $1400.

Thoughts?

efi is a great idea, but for 1400 I could probably work out something with a Holley unit. I've heard one of the GM throttle bodies will bolt on but haven't really pursued it as I'm gonna go with the v6 and til then the weber suits me fine

I'm interested in what ECU they will be using. Hopefully it will be fully user mapable and also handle ignition.

If its mapable, you could greatly increase low and mid range torque with the right cham and fuel/ignition mapping.

The combo intake/exhause manifold would limit the top end, but the car could be made VERY much more fun driving around town.

$1400 sounds very reasonable assuming they are going to supply a premade wiring loom and all the needed sensors.

What would make it VERY interesting is if they could include a 3 way catalytic converter so you can delete the EGR valve and smog pump and still be ok for emissions in CA....

I also wonder if they have tried EFI with thier supercharger. =)

One of my goals in life is to build a chrome bumper MGB up that looks almost completely stock from the outside and the interior, but is powered by a supercharged, fuel injected B series engine with a cross flow head.
