TR6 Moss TR6 mechanical fuel pump TR6

Last year I went back to a mechanical fuel pump in the TR250 after issues with a electric pump. A lot of talk at the time of the poor fuel pumps that were being produced. Then word came out that the mechanical pumps were much improved so I purchased one. Well Sunday the car developed a miss and discovered that the pump is making noises and the in-line filter you can see there is only a little spritz of fuel from time to time. Any one have any issues/problems with these new pumps?

Yes I do. However what made me go to the electric pump was the fact that the original rebuild failed and filled the crank case with 4 gallons + of fuel. The shaft seal is no longer available so when the diaphragm develops a hole there is nothing to stop the fuel from getting past the shaft and into the block.

The electric one worked very well but had no way to control the power to it. So when the car stalled it was always a challenge to get to turn off the ignition especially if your away from the car. I needed a fuel pressure cut off switch to really make it work.

I'm open for options?

You can easily rebuild your own. The kits do include the well seal to prevent fuel from going into the crank case.

TR6 Fuel Pump Rebuild

Just call and give them the numbers from your original pump to get the proper kit.

Paul, I use to think that too. Til, I saw what they where charging for them to do it.
Thought I saw $80.
Makes sense to have them do it. Unless it a rush job.
Might be a good winter project to have them build one and have it ready to go.

Don, you are correct in that statement, as I saw $80 done complete as well. I just wanted to show that these are not that difficult to do, if he wanted to do his own. I like the idea of sending back an original and getting it back with a quick turnaround, if that's the path he wants to go.

Every part varies a little, so I would call and get a quote, just to be sure. they will ask for the numbers that are on the pump, along with year, make, model, engine, etc......

Or you could call them and explain what you need and the time that you need it done in. They are very good about being honest and up front with time and cost estimates, from what I've been told.

BTW, I have no financial interest, just an interest in supporting the vendors with the best parts for the job.

My recent experience with MaritimeRacing - Then & Now Antique Auto
I sent them two nasty old orignal pumps by USPS priority flat rate and 5 days later got them back from them. I'm in SWFL and they are in Mass.

Forgot how to post pics, but they look great and one is on the car now, curing the problems created by the aftermarket Moss pump.

I must have got my signals crossed. I just talked to Jeff at Advance Distributors and he is at Road America as were talking. I guess he only does distributors but mentioned he polished some fuel pump bodies for a few guys over the years. He told me that the Roadster Factory had the rebuild kits with the shaft seal too. So I'll try both places Thursday. Thanks!

If you want the upgraded valves AND aircraft grade rubber, go with the first source. JMHO......
