Moss relay kit

I mounted Moss' relay kit in both my '62 tri-carb and my '67 BJ8. I mounted both on the left front side centered (approx.) above the left front wheel well in the engine compartment. That area is the only area that you can mount them and have enough wire to make the connections without splicing extra lengths of wire to reach the existing connections. They do plug directly into the existing connection on each side of the car. In my '62 there was a screw hole available on the engine side of the wheel well and in my '67 I mounted them on the same reinforcing member that the brake/clutch fluid reservoir is mounted to. I don't think water would get to either one of them, but in my case it wouldn't matter as I never drive them in the rain.

O.K. Sports fans, I'm ready to install the relay kit on My 65 BJ8. The car is NEG. ground so I'm not sure how this is going to work. Do I run power from the solenoid to the relays, Disconnect the power wire (Blue) from the switch (currently it runs from dash to dip switch) then run a ground wire to the switch where the blue wire was? Will the running lights still work?

No, leave all the wires in the cockpit as is. You want to connect the low beam output wire from the dip switch on the floor to one relay input. Connect the high beam output from the same switch to the other relay's input. Then run the wires from the relays to the headlights.
Will the running lights still work?
Those should be a separate circuit, but I don't know how they were wired on your car.
 
The way the car is now is Brown wire from solenoid to control box to dash switch for power in. Then a blue wire to the dip switch provides juice from the dash switch. The dip switch has a blue and red low beam supply and a blue and white high beam supply with a lead to the high beam indicator light. So utilize the above info from GregW, the old brown wire should power the dash switch and trigger the relays?

Yes, what the relays do is route the high amperage out of the cockpit. That keeps the under dash wires (and switches) from heating up too much. The relays need to know when they should power up, that is why both the dash and dip switch should remain wired as original.

Just My luck, I get a defective kit from Moss. What should have been a 2 hour job has turned into a 7 hour quest to trace a bad bullet connector on the kits wiring harness.
 
Well photo not an option because I took it apart so I could return to stock until I get a replacement for the defective kit. I used exterior foam mounting tape, like double sticky back tape that is thin foam. I found it in the paint/tape stuff at Home depot. I stuck it to the flat spot right above the steering tube in the engine compartment. The wires are long enough to get to the bullet plug connectors in the stock BJ8 harness. Iwas able to hide the red power wire behind the stock harness all the way to the solenoid and attach the ground to a mounting screw for the signal flasher. The tape worked good and did not mar the paint.

That is true .However, you may want to give some considerations to heat in the engine compartment, as most adhesives fail when sujected to heat.
 
Yeah I figure it won't last forever but the tape is rated for outdoor use and up to 20 lbs. so I might get a few months out of it.
