Moss Performance Header - Port Matching

I recently purchased the Moss Performance Header and was trying to perform a basic port match when I found that two inner ports on both sides are narrower on the header than on the engine. I imagine I can try to drimmel some of the extra metal away to make the port wider but I don't think I will be able to open it all the way. Has anyone else had the same problem with their moss header?

Is this a good header or would I be better off going with something like the Pace Setter header?

My Pace Setters have the oposite problem the opening is not tall enough and I will have to grind to port match. I had been running this way and just discovered it while rebuilding my motor. you might try grinding a bevel on the edges if you cant open them up enough, just a beveled grind should help make the transition--kind of a cheated port match
 
I have no idea about the Moss header, but the Pacesetter header was a terrible fit on my car. Twisted like a pretzel.

Can you send it back and request a replacement?

What experiences do the rest of the members have with headers? I know Bill had a problem with his. Does anyone have a recommendation for a header that is a good fit?
 
I have had a problem with a header for the TR4a which fitted fine on all cylinders except number one. It was fixable by a lot of port matching but I felt it would have been better to heat and redend the header.

The reason this is so common, I think, is that the cylinder heads are not crossflow, like a V8, so the inlet manifold has to fit between the primary pies of the exhaust header, and it is dfifficult to design a header with a continuous flange holding the primary tubes in the correct positions.

There are headers, at least for 4 cylinder TRs, which have a flange along the bottom, and I expect this would result in a more accurate fit.
I think they are made in the U>K> and sold through Moss as Triumphtune products. I would try to find one designed that way for your car if possible.

How about the TRF Group 44 Header? Is this work the money? It looks to be of a very similar design to the Pace Setter (which I have heard bad things about as well). I would like to get the best flow possible and have the ports match correctly.

Headers tend to be one of those object that really bear out the "you get what you pay for" mantra. The more expensive they are, the more likely they are to match up correctly. That's the bad news. The good news is that those more expensive headers do actually seem to fit up really well and turn out to be worth the extra money.
