TR4/4A Moss interior color way diff RED for tr4a

I just now opened my order that has been sitting here for 3 years for new seat kits red with white piping, I was shocked to see there red is really closer to a deep red/burgundy, not even similar to the stock interior color, kind of renders my NOS red boot cover useless which is a bit sad since it was such a great find.
Now I am concerned about the red of the door panel kits that I have not yet placed an order for.

You can also have a flexible paint mixed to dye the boot to match the seats and door trims when you have everything together. The body shop near you that uses DuPont products can have the trim color matched to meet the shade of the Moss trim and have them spray it for you. I did that with the boot and rear panel behind the seats of my TR8, which was sun bleached. They now both match and look great.

Have pictures so we can see the difference?

Scott

Oh ye of little faith.....would I kid you guys???

Paul,

Actually, I was curious to see the original shade red TR4A color and the color that Moss had provoded.

But nice pictures and looks good!

Scott......oops!! I thought that you were asking me....my bad....

At least you guys know the brand name of the flexible paint that we used. It really works well.

Hi Paul,

How did you apply it, spray, brush, ???

Was the color just "brown"? How good of a match was it to the original?

-Darrell

Darrell, it was sprayed on at the body shop, per the instructions on the can. I twisted the boot in every direction possible and then had new snaps installed with no issues, so it is really very flexible paint.

The color was made to match the new material that I received for the visors, which matches the bulk of the material in the car. They tinted by eye, so there is no color formula for these.

Had my top, tonneau, side curtains, and stick cover sprayed by my body guy with NAPA TEC ONE. Took two tries to get the color correct, but it matches the interior of my TR3A done by 2Tall EXACTLY.

One thing to mention. When I got the panels and the boot back from the shop, I let them sit for a week to cure. It may have been overkill, because they were very dry when I picked them up after two days in the paint booth at about 90 degrees, but better safe than sorry.

Call Moss and ask for the free sample card of vinyl and leather.

re: Paul's vinyl paint........ I had a chestnut boot cover and used a special rattle can paint from Eastwood that held up for about 10 years before I had to respray it.

I think it would be a very difficult process with white piping. better off just selling my prize find boot cover and getting the one from moss at some point.
