Moss HS-4 rebuild kits

Has anyone ordered the HS-4 rebuild kits from Moss? I see they offer the rebuild kit and the "master" rebuild kit, but the master doesn't have the metering needles. Is this the only difference? Looking at the catalog it appears that the float valve only comes in the master kit. I picked up a set of HS-4s which appear to be in good condition, but figured I would at least see about new gaskets, and the float valves seem a little sticky. If the rebuild kit has all the parts and the metering needle, I'll just get one of those. I don't think I need throttle shafts since they don't feel sloppy.

I need to rebuild my SUs too. Not sure about the difference in kits either. Thanks for posting this.

Opinion; the price differential seems to say you are not getting much in just the rebuild kit.---Keoke

umm.... just my opinion here, but: I'd be talkin' to Joe Curto for needles/seats/kits, etc.

...but that's just me.

Dave, looks like you're stepping off into uncharted teritory. Can't believe you're leaving the stromberg behind..lol..jk. Seriously, I've heard nothing but good things about the aforementioned Mr. Curto. PS. I think I got my stromberg to finally quit fading to the rich side while it is idling...still less power than the SU's though...good luck my friend!

Minor Segue: 'bout a year ago a friend talked me into rebuilding HIS friends' "baby" SU's off'n a Frogeye Sprite... floats, jets etc. were gummed up and corroded/pinholed beyond usefulness. Those brass, centre holed floats are proverbial Hen's Teeth now. Joe Curto was able to furnish me with a set of 'em, along with all the other necessary bits. I went thru the carbs, bench-set 'em up as best I could and shipped 'em back: Friend said they uboxed 'em, bolted 'em up and turned on the car. Ran like factory new the first time it was lit off.

You can go faffin' about with the so-called kits from the "Usual Sources," but Joe Curto's services will get you what you need first time out, no messin'.

Tha's me story, guv. An' I'm stickin' to it.

I had no problem cleaning and setting up my SU's. They are fairly simple compared to V8 carbs. Get the manual on SU tuning and if you can get the video that shows you how.
