Moss Drops the Ball

I signed up over there. Hey, it dosen't hurt to shmooze with one of the biggest suppliers of parts for my sickness,I mean, hobby. But Basil has my undying loyalty. This is "home" and I will not forget all that he has done for us.
I made sure to sneak a link and a mention into a couple of posts over there, and I was starting to get a bit miffed at how many people had comments like "finally, a forum for british cars" Man, what cruddy search engine do they use?
It will be intresting to see if they can even come close to the level of civility that thrives on this site.
Bartender! pass another! I've jabbered meself dry.
OOOH! Docs got the doors of the shed open! I'l take that beer to go!

if there ever was a pub i wanted to "close" its this one /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Basil,

Don't worry about Moss!

I've been looking for a site like yours for years and it ROCKS! In a short time I have found a wealth of new friends, vendors, sites of extreme interest, and a sharing of my thoughts concerning my favorite pastime...my 3. Moss may have some fancy graphics but the content is way too commercial and censored (meaning...if Moss don't sell it Moss won't let you post who does). What good is that? I know you've been having some speed issues (soon to change) but no where does it get any better than this. IMOP don't change a thing.

I noticed already that their 'moderators' are pushing part numbers, I thought they'd hold off for a couple of weeks to get people settled in, guess the temptation was too strong.
It is a nice forum sure, and they have a motive, great, but it's just not BCF.
Even with a thousand members already, impressive, but when you have a large email base to push, that's easy. Lot's of members, but not too many posts.

As a Moss distributor, there's not much I can say....however, I can attest to this: my new parts business has grown tremendously since I became a supporting vendor here!

They say imitation is the most sincere form of flattery. They got the layout down, they even imatated the idea of the PUB, but they can never imitate the spirit and friendship of this place. Even with some of the same people over there. It just won't be the same. Somehow I think the dedication of the site owner and the reason for its being might have a lot to do with it. I read them as very commercial oriented.

I appreciate the support guys. I'm sure that new forum will drain off some of the membership here (I think I've already seen that to an extent), but I guess that's just life. I'll continue what I've been doing for the past 6 years and that is striving to make BCF the best LBC forum on the planet - not for profit but just for the enjoyment of supporting a great hobby.

So true. I've been a member of this forum for over four years. I remember when you used to post something and wait days before someone made a reply. My how things have changed. Replies now come in minutes. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yesnod.gif I'm on here just about everyday, several times a day. This place has really built itself up thanks to the efforts of Basil and all of the members. I belong to alot of car related forums...this one, the Miata forum, one for Saturns and one for the Mazda6 and a couple of others, such as Eastwood. The only ones that I regularly go on is this one and the Miata forum. And, it's all because of the way they are run, the expertise of the contributing members, and the high standards to which everything is kept.

Will I and others go and check out the Moss forum?? Of course we will. But, it's like taking a trip away from home. You always feel better when you come back.

I hope so because my number of members online for a mid-Saturday morning has decreased dramatically from wht I'm used to seeing. Time will tell whether we can stay alive here. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I'm here for the long haul... I've have been busy lately. But I'm not going anywhere. I love it here. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

I wonder if it's just a last Saturday of the season kinda thing, Basil. Have you kept any kind of annual "journal" of stats?

I think you will find that the BCF achieves will be able to answer many of the questions that folks post in the Moss forum. I plan on answering the post with links back to the relevant BCF post. People will see the light and just come straight here with their questions. There is a thread going in the Spridget forum about this as well and I have seen at least one new member make the switch from Moss to the BCF. I can answer the Spridget questions but I'm not going to be able to answer questions about the other marquees. This is where you come in, if you see a question on moss and know the answer is somewhere in the BCF achieves, take a little time and do a search, briefly answer the question on the Moss site and paste a link to the full thread on the BCF.

I, for one, am happy to be so genuinely welcomed into this forum. Kinda like the corner pub. Quality not quantity! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/england.gif

Well at least when I type in "British Car Forum" in google, the place is the #1 result. So that's a good thing /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

When you go to Yahoo & type in "British Car", its #3...tain't bad!
