Morgan Plus 8 - Not for Purists

Hi, I've been absent from this forum for awhile. This is due to the fact that we have been busy reincarnating a Morgan Plus 8 to have 400 bhp. Before anyone bemoans the originality factor, I will remind you that the Plus 8 Prototype was first equipped with a Buick engine. Then my dad used propane as a way to keep Morgans in the US.
Now, the emissions laws have necessitated the making of a MonsterMog, in which he has installed a Corvette 5.7 liter engine. See sMOG This

Thats pretty cool Tcherek. I don't think it is a big sin for an owner to change out the engine in a morgan, especially since they are coach builders, did they even ever build their own engines? I have witnessed much greater blasphemy before, a 289 ford into a AH 3000.

You made my day, always loved the Morgan. I was going to get one in England, but before I could be fitted got orders to ship out, they were having some kind of trouble over in Nam and couldn't do without me, I must not of helped much. Didn't they offer the car with the 289 Ford, same as the Tiger or is my memory gone. Wayne

Nope Wayne. The only V8 that Morgan offered was the Buick-Oldsmobile-Pontiac-Brabham-Rover lightweight 3.5 litre (and larger) V8.....and that one didn't come out until 1968.

Prior to that, the Morgan +4 had a Vanguard or Triumph TR2,3,3A,4, or 4A engine.

The only Ford engines they used were a variety of British Ford 4-bangers in the 4/4 series cars.

Tcherek........are you Bill Fink's daughter???

Yes, Bill has been my stepdad for 25 years now. We just visited The Morgan Motor Company in England, where we were able to drive our Morgan Aero 8 demonstrator car. Photo are on my web site at sMOGThis

Thanks for the photos tcherk, I really enjoyed all. Wayne

I think that the new Aero 8 is beautiful. However, I suspect that the headlights will go under a minor redesign over the next couple of years to avoid that "cross-eyed" look.

I drive Morgans in my rock-n-roll fantasies!
