Noticed an ad for a +4 in the local paper.
I had to call - you don't see that very often.
Talked to the owner.It needs a total restoration,
& it's been owned by the same person for years.
It's a '59,with a TR3 engine.
I might go take a look at it tomorrow.
Anybody interested.Oh,he's asking $5000.

Total restoration.......on a Morgan, that can be scary. Check the frame out carefully, it's made of wood. If the wood and the chassis look okay then anything else is straightforward, you can get (or even make) panels.

If it's not too bad, five large could be a steal.

I thought it was just the body frame (supporting structure) that was made of ash, not the chassis itself.

Whatever the case, I think it'd be a great car to own.

The chassis is steel, the body frame is wood. A local LBC shop (that is also the local factory authorized Morgan repair center) has done a few frame off resto's of plus fours. The owner of the local Morgan dealership has a '67 +4 that began life with a 1500cc Ford Kent engine. It is now powered by a 1600cc Kent Crossflow. That car started as a "restored" Morgan bought off of Ebay. What arrived was a Morgan in need of a restoration but with a fresh paint job, new top, new interior and new wire wheels. $40,000 and an actual restoration later, he had a car worth just over $40K (don't know current value though) and practially a brand new car as very little of the original was worthy of saving after all the poorly applied paint and bondo was removed.

The same shop currently has another Morgan undergoing a full restoration that the owner believed was 1949 car when it turned out to be a 1939 car, powered by a 1 litre-ish Standard engine. I was there during that discovery and the subsequent confirmation by the Morgan folks. Pretty cool actually.

The other bonus of having a Morgan dealer in town, and knowing and having worked for the owner. Is that I have had the opprotunity to drive several new Plus 8's, a V6 Roadster and have even taken a turn behind the wheel of an Aero 8. Good times. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif

I went and looked at it this afternoon.
He sold it right before I got there.
At least a local person bought it,who told me that he'll have it done in a couple of months.He's restored other cars,
so it might just happen.
Looking at the car - it was definatly worth $5K
It needed a restoration,but it wasen't a "rust bucket".
