Does anyone know where I can get a lever seat cover (the plate that holds the shifter in)? I could also use a new shifter.

Looks like I'm also going to need all the shifting rods. It looks like the trans was rebuilt then never filled with oil and left to sit. now the shift rods are rust pitted.
 
Make a list of the parts that you need and let me know. I have enough internals to build about 3 boxes so we should be able to get you back on the road. The problem of not staying in gear that you mentioned earlier is probably due to the detent balls hanging up. Once you get the box stripped down you can soak them down with PB blaster or the like and get them freed up.
 
Thanks Chris. I've got most of the trans taken apart. Then I realized I have a 1962 worksop manual and a 1967 trans. No wonder I can't get the mainshaft out. Have to find a 67 manual.
 
Not really. It's just as vague as the 62 manual. I can't figure it out. It says to remove the third-fourth synchro. How?
 
If it doesn't, remove the front cover from inside the bell housing, pull the 1st motion shaft forward which will pull the bearing out a little. You'll need to wiggle it but it will come a bit. Once the snap ring is accessible remove it. You can now use a dead blow hammer or block of wood and regular hammer to push the main shaft out the back by tapping the 1st motion shaft. Be aware that this will load the syncros up against the gears but you need to disassemble it down to the bare shaft so it won't hurt anything. If you have trouble with the gears (3rd especially) let us know. Good luck.
