Well some more news and questions.
First my bad. Didn't take the check list and missed the thrust washers. This could have really made this a steal rather than a great deal. One was in the bottom of the pan and the crank has worn the cap. A standard and a .005 oversize allows .005 end float, but the wear pattern is tapered so the wear is worse.
My shop says can be repaired and use a oversize thrust washer. This would be an extra couple hundred.
The other thing is this motor is not a Spitfire but a Midget.
Has a FP code and a straight oil pick up. Also the crank is stamp indicating a .010 turn on the main and rod journals.
Oh well usually the way I learn, school of hard knocks. :wall:

When I started it the tach hook up was pointing at the block.
I was looking at the timing tonight and I think someone has the dizzy in a couple of teeth off. The spark fires as the rotor comes off the contact on the cap correct?
In an attempt to quantify the cam, I will take the valve cover off and measure the rocker lift with a dial gauge, but wouldn't you need a degree wheel to measure the duration. Is there a better method?
