If its an engine clock - where's it located?
 
It's not the clock, Tony. It's the 12G over the 432.
I had to crop it out of a larger photo, and that was the best resolution I could get.

Tony, I do not know. The '63 may have the gusset plates even though it doesn't have the holes.

Trevor....what does 12G432 denote?
 
Tony, the 12G432 is definitely a "Big Crank" block casting number. As an educated guess, I would say May of '65. I've never seen a clock on a Spridget block, but I've never really looked for one, either.

So, we're back to where we began...I've got a big crank '65 engine with a mechanical fuel pump in my '63 GAN2 car with a smooth case transmission!! & records to show the dealer replaced the original engine under warranty.....but no records to show a transmission swap.
 
Could be, I mean, I'm gonna put a sway bar on it & somewhere down the road after I'm planted the next owner will wonder about that...I've got all the old titles on the car since day 1 so know who all the POs were...but I dount that were I to track them down any of them would remember that....luckily, I've got a rb case to go back in it.

I think the 10CC with mechanical fuel pump is more intriguing!

I agree, Tony. The smoothcase could have been installed at any time, but unless the block was modified by a PO, it's factory.
I wish Hap would weigh in on this one. He's seen more 10CC engines than I have.

WHEW!! Except for the upper dash roll, everything is off the body & out of the interior....the only thing holding the dash in the car is the dual oil/water guage & it'll come out as I start removing everything from the engine compartment Monday....by mid-week she'll be in the body shop!

Moss will love me when I place my order Monday...as I've disassembled each piece, I've inspected it & made a list of the parts I want to replace when I put it back together....naturally all the weatherstripping gets renewed...only 1 piece of body trim is bad along with the grille surround pieces (I just don't like the scuffs on them)....all the other bright work is in great shape.

She's been in a tiny fender bender somewhere in the past - driver front fender...repair was nicely done but I want to have the body shop take it down & look at it closely.

But, tomorrow I've gotta go visit my grandson & play with his trains!!

Got the file, jeff - just haven't tried to open it yet....hardest thing so far has been the cockpit surrounds & the doors retaining straps (guess that's what they're called - the things that keep the doors from opening too far)....the screws in one broke off & I've got to drill them out.
 
They're called check straps, Tony. I've found that an impact screwdriver works pretty well for those screws, and the door hinges, too. At least they're easy to get to to drill out.
Have you removed the windshield yet?

Windshield was easy!

Laying down in that little passenger compartment even when its empty to remove the dash was a real trick!

Doing thngs under the dash in the race car is a real pain. No matter which way you position yourself, there's a roll cage tube in some part of your anatomy.

Jeff, I wouldn't say I seen alot of 10CC 2" main engine, not alot to look at /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif I seen mechanical fuel pump boosses blocked off alot of engine including the 1275 and as well have saw many that have the blanking plate. The 10CC engine represents one thing to me, a engine that fit within a class for SCCA racing, beside that nobody on the street gets excited about them, most want a 1275,and for good reason thats the motor all the goodies are offered for. Like I told Tony on the phone the other day, the 10CC is rare and important, but only to very small audience. I see no problem with building one for a street car if you want to, but don't go crazy with it, not many performance parts offerings, if you going to go over to the wild side, might as well do so with a 1275.

The 1098 didn't last long in the line-up, the 10CC even less. BMC wanted to get a tourquer engine, and they did so mostly with stroke over the 948, the 948 has a stroke of 3.00", and had no torque to speak of, the 1098 bore is only .060" bigger tha the 948, but the stroke went up to 3.300", the longest stroke of any of the A-series engines, the 1275 has a stroke of 3.200". The 1098 still hade the angle rods like the 948, so you could get them thru the bores, but the 1098 lost the silly pinch bolt on the small end on the connecting rods that the 948s had and had a closed end with a bushing, in fact lots of guys like to use the 1098 rods in the their 948s, in fact I have a nice set of 1098 rods, if anyone needs a set.
 
Hap, I've got one hotted up 1098 street engine in my '65, and it's a killer. But all of the ones I have don't have the provision for a mech. fuel pump. I can't remember if the early 10CC's were machined for the pump or not.
The only thing I found to be a bit of a pain to get for the 1098 was a good set of pistons. Just about everything else on mine, except the rods, is shared with the 1275. APT loved it when I built <u>that</u> one! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif
One thing I never understood was that, oddly enough, the 1098 was legal in the Bugeye for "H", long before the limited prep crap started, at a lighter weight than the 948 cars were allowed, and I never saw anyone taing advantage of it. I mentioned that to Joe Huffaker once, and he said he didn't understand it either. You could run a 1098 at 1520 lbs, and the 948 cars were at 1577!
Tony seems to have a bit of a "mix & match" special!
My race 948 has Carillo rods in it, but if I build a spare for it, it'll get 1098 rods. No sense in using Carillos in an engine that is pretty much obsolete for racing anymore. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif
