I read on the Triumph Register Forum that some were using NGKBP6ES plugs(normally for 250's and TR6's) on their 3's and 4's. I checked with NGK and they say that those plugs have a 3/4" reach and could hit the piston! They recommended NGKBP6HS which has the required 1/2" reach for the TR3. Either the 3/4" still clears the piston or they've got their numbers wrong?

I believe they still clear the piston; I've used 3/4" reach plugs myself in a pinch. The real danger is that the exposed threads will accumulate deposits (carbon, etc.) such that you cannot remove the plug.

:iagree: ... all around! Likely they won't hit the piston (and I know they don't in 1147cc Spitfire engines, either), but they are just that much more difficult to remove if they've been in a very long time!
