[ QUOTE ]
Our "big boss" at work walked up to congratulate me on a rather large contract win for which I was the proposal lead. AS he started to shake my hand to congratulate me, his cell phone rang. He answered and then just sort of walked off talking on the phone with nary another word to me. I just continued on my way, but I found the whole thing a bit strange.

I have that exact same experience every single day at work. I get at least one customer who either A.) won't stop talking on the phone while trying to ask me questions (and these conversations are always the sorts of things like what they wore to dinner the other nite, that funny face the baby made, etc.).
or B.) I'm in the middle of helping someone and the phone rings. It's always loud, and it always gets answered, and maybe one in ten people will simply press the silencer button and continue conducting business with me. The other nine will answer and proceed to talk about what they wore to dinner the other night, that funny face the baby made, etc. What really burns me is that I've just done them a service, and I usually don't even get a simple "thank you" from these selfish jerks.
Heck, I've even had my boss stop talking mid sentence to answer her phone!
What's really sad is that many of these people can't imagine life without a cell phone. My boss got ticked at me one day because she'd tried reaching me at home when I was out (actually I may have ignored the phone, I don't remember). Anyway, she demanded my cell phone number. I told her I didn't have one, and she just couldn't believe it. She asked me why and I told her I couldnt afford one (a lie, really) and that if I wasn't at home I probably didn't want to be bothered anyway. She just couldn't understand why I didn't want to be reachable all day long, and she's not the first person I've had that conversation with!
