Alana,

It's a Racetorations piece. I've bought a few things from him and this was the first shipment. I'm still waiting on a lightened steel flywheel, and a hydraulic clutch setup. Everything else should be delivered this week.

Shannon, you have the HVDA conversion don't you? If I'm right, can you let me know what the access is like to the reverse light switch on the Toyota box when you get round to putting it on. You can do it off topic if you prefer.

Thx, Alan

No, I'm going the J-type conversion route. After a little soul searching (OK I'm being a little melodramatic here) I decided that a J-type is more the "spirit" of the TR and that the real weakness is that horrid clutch setup, which after a couple weeks will be eliminated.

I realize that I'll probably break my J-type within a year, and then I'll go ahead and purchase the HVDA kit anyway, but please allow me my moment of hardheadedness.

Good luck. To be honest I'd rather have had an o/d, but I know it won't handle the power so it had to be the HVDA setup.

I was at a friends place today and saw his new Quantum refurbed A-type box (he's rebuilding a 72 6 which is in pieces, and part of the rebuild involves a conversion to o/d).

It's pretty nice looking, if it's possible to say that about bits of metal...

Well, from what I understand, the 4sp box itself is pretty tough... and I've also been told that if I use the o/d for cruising only, then I'm not going to tear the J-type up.

That being said, your motor is going to be putting out 50% more power than mine, so yes, you probably need the HVDA.

From what I've read, you are good up to about 200hp on the standard box/od combo. Unless you start with the high boost supercharging you ought to be fine.

As an aside, my new intake manifold is ready, and the guy in FL is halfway through making my rear axles. I wish I could say the same about progress on the rest of the car - I'm still waiting for pistons (or technically now its the wrist pins that are backordered).
