More Fodder for the Rumor Mill

Yep, you can't make a classic simply by badging it, but I must say, the new Mini is true to form...

I agree to both points and as to that supposed TR4 based design - UGH or EE-YEW as my daughter would say. It is nothing like true to form. The only bit I agree with is that it should remind me of the classic Micholetti or even earlier shapes.

Sorry box and wedge fans - stands back ready to duck the flames, but decides to run for the airport and the flight home:smile:

I hope BMW makes a car that seduces many of the folks that own real Triumphs so many of them go on the market! Then I can more easily afford a couple of the other models I would like to own. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

Audi TT look alike
Then I guess I won't need one.

Although I wouldn't say "look alike," the TT design has been the inspiration ofr many newer sports car designs. This is my TT. It has a GIAC Stage II programmed ECU, Borla exhaust and other engine mods, goes like stink and keeps on going until you let off. G force is amazing.

The front end looks Honda-ish in the headlights.
I hope this remains a rumor.

Hmmm, Take GM/SKY badging off put TR9?/Triumph badge ON? Tad bit of a size difference.

Nice Audi - Peter! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif

Much greater size difference than I would have thought.

(Your Sky is nice too.)

Unfortunately... if BMW does produce a Triumph, the design will need to incorporate safety features like airbags, crush zones, anti-submarine technology, and be wind-tunnel friendly. They can never duplicate the classic Triumphs... only take styling cues from them.

Look at how beautiful Harry's TR3 looks compared to his Sky (above). In my eye, these classics are simply works of art made back in the days of few constraints. Designers really could express themselves.

That's not to say that I don't like modern cars (Lotus Elise!), but rather they are a different genre. So, although it might be nice to bring production cars back under this marque, perhaps it would just be a re-skined Z4 with a TR badge and stying cues. The Z4 is a fantastic car, but I don't see myself peeking out the kitchen window just to sneak a look at it.

I'll wait and see what happens, but I am not overly excited about it.

Same goes for the mini/new mini and beetle/new beetle though. Cars seem to just keep getting bigger... e.g. park a new Honda Civic next to an 85 Accord- I wouldn't be surprised if the Civic is bigger.
