More fodder for aviation buffs

P-38 . always my favorite plane. Had 2 photos in my room when I was young. A P-51 and a P-38. It was that twin fuselage that always captivated me.

nice! ditto on favorite pre-jet era planes... always loved the lines of the P51, but was always captivated by the twin engine design of the P38...

They had a nice article on TV on the retrieval of her, which was a tremendous amount of work and I guess about a year ago her first flight after restoration. It was great to watch! Supposedly cost a bundle to achieve.

Great stuff. The rescue of that plane from the ice is just amazing.

There is a P-38 "gate guard" at McGuire AFB here in NJ

My childhood home was nearby, so I saw it all the time.
(Not sure if it is still there.....haven't been in that area for a few years).

And Richard Taylor, the man who started, but couldn't finish, the recovery is a TR4 vintage racer!

Went by that one often while my brother was stationed there for 10 years!! I too am a big fan of that twin fuselage design since childhood and the P-38 was prominent among the Airfix collection of WW II planes hanging from my bedroom ceiling as a kid!!

Thanks for the post Basil, that was great!!!

I saw the P38 (and parts) at Oshkosh right after they yanked it out of the ice. Interesting display, and interesting "restoration".

Used to see 'em in the air. Not so much anymore.

My best P-38 story can't be posted.

You want to hit your head on a post a few times too, eh? The only thing productive I've done is make use of some good Italian swear words.

Seems all my life that's been an "issue"... but it feels SOOoo good when ya STOP.

I always remember this as a P-38....

Came in the C-Rations.

I renewed contact with an old friend from the UK after about 30 years of silence. He is an artist, specialises in aviation subjects. I'm trying to persuade him to send me some images to post on the forum here..... Any interest from the multitude?
