More eye trauma.

Tuesday, went for a retinal checkup. My *dolly* doctor found the right eye to have a bit of an "elevated" area. Had to pick up 'smits from the train station an hour later, so scheduled a laser surgery for Wednesday afternoon. Highly unpleasant! Felt like someone put an ice-pick in my cranium for a few minutes. And sand in the eye for the next few hours.

AAaayyyyeeeeeeeeeeeeee..............!!!

Better'n goin' blind but I don't recommend it on a voluntary basis.

So, was the "elevated" area a growth, or something similar?

Retinal "lift". Had the left eye go rogue and separate about five years ago, this woman nailed it back in place and put a scleral buckle in there. Right one had similar proclivity, welded it down at the same time. Now she keeps me on the "frequent flyer" schedule. Catches any wierdness before it can turn into a need for another serious procedure. A blind photojournalist doesn't get much work, y'see.

I want to have her children. :wink:

I'm just curious and you don't have to answer but are you diabetic. I've a friend who's been diabetic since diagnosis at the age of 3. He is now 68 and has maintained his eyesight. He is the poster child for the Joslin Clinic in Boston where he has undergone laser eye treatment since about the age of 35. He is now treated by the son of his original doctor.

Hey Doc,
Did you happen to read the warning label on the laser? It says "Do Not Shine in Eyes". I had to point that fact out to my doctor once.

I'm a diabetic and the problem I've had was leaking capillaries on the retina, not lifting as Doc had. New blood vessels can form in a zig-zag pattern instead of a straight path. Those zig-zags can break open easier.

Having your eyes worked on is always a little creepy to me.
I had cataract surgury once - freaky.

man, I AM glad i can reread stuff. The first 3 times I started to read that, I kept reading "leaking calipers" and kept thinking "that's not right"...

man, I AM glad i can reread stuff. The first 3 times I started to read that, I kept reading "leaking calipers" and kept thinking "that's not right"...

Pigment epithial detatchment (sic?)

I've got the same thing here but because of a bug in my eye. I quit taking the shots cause the thinng has got to grow/heal in order to quit leaking. A little cipro and BP meds and all is better ( but aint fixed).

Hey Doc, let me know if you have a blind spot where she zapped ya. They wanted to to that tto me along with the postal rubber band but "eye" opted out.

I've been zapped (tack welded in my terms) numerous times in both eyes, scleral buckles in both eyes during 7 hour surgery on each. The blind spot was the indication that the retina was trying to go south. Became type II diabetic after both surgeries so don't think that contributed either. Previous cataract surger on both eyes may have contributed though. However, i do get frequent checkups to make sure things are hanging together.

Hi Doc. Back in 1997 the center of my left retina detached for no apparent reason. The doctor could do nothing,as there was bleeding and scar tissue formed,and it left me with a center blind spot. Took a while to adjust to the freaky vision problems.Distorsion,and depth perception issues. Softball was over[Playing SS and 3rd base with depth problems] is dangerous and my pool and bowling games took a hit.Since then,eye healed[a center blind spot] and no problems with my right eye.Safty glasses,when working on the cars are my friends.Hey,I look on the bright side. If my good eye goes bad,I get a really cool dog and there wont be any ugly girls. Come here baby! Grab her and say let me have a look at ya! Makes you appreciate something you take for granted,doesnt it?

Almost a year to the day after the cataract procedures is when the retinal problems began for me. No hereditary evidence or diabetes.
