more engine identification questions

hello all,
i posted this on the MG board but i figured i would post it here as well.
I have a 75 spitfire 1500.

i have been trying to find out some info on my car and i have been told that the engine number is actually from a later model MG midget.

The number that is stamped on the block is FP5759 UF (or possibly VF)
i am told that triumph blocks had an FM designation (like on my commision number)

the head is stamped KC1409 which i believe to be the triumph low compression 1500 head. it also has a delco 204 distributor. weber dgv carb and pierce intake.

any info on the block would be greatly appreciated.

my spicific questions are.
what year or year range is the block?
will all the 1500 spitfire parts fit?
in other words...is it basically the same engine with a different "part number/serial number"

The Spitfire and Midget 1500 engines are basicly identical and parts are interchangeable but they did use different part numbers (no wonder BL went belly up). The head is roughly 74-75 7.5 compression head used on both spit and midget with the same stamped numbers, the block numbers only come up with 75-79 midget. My guess the only way to really get an accurate idea of the year would be to start looking at other midget 1500's and their engine numbers. The numbers did start in 75 with FP-300-UE. Hope this helps.
