More Cheap Italiana anyone?

My friend's ITB Pinto has "Will trade food stamps for gas" on the back.

And "Performance by JC Whitney" on the side.

I like him and I don't even know him. Tha's great.

Back when the "Runabout" was new, some friends and I were plotting ways of campaigning one in SCCA. The idea was "stillborn" as we were scattered across the planet shortly after. Another friend had a baby-poop brown "woodie wagon" we'd use as our "stealth" vehicle... so mundane nobody would look twice at it. As an aside, another friend thought a Gremlin painted up to resemble a "US Keds" high-top tennis shoe would be a hoot. And an unabashed bid at sponsorship $$ /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Yea........This guy is a trip.....

He really wanted to race w/ us but had almost zero cash.

He showed up at his 1st school in some E-bay driver's suit that had sequins on it.

And his 3 Dots pasted little glitter stickers all over the car the night before.

They started calling him Cpt. Sparkles

I'm thinkin' I'd go the tennis shoe painted Gremlin route!... How's about Black though, with a white swoosh down the side? (It'd match my shoes) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Plus I think I'd rather have a Gremlin than a Pinto.

Maybe if it was a Gremlin X with the 304 V8, but it's still ugly. The Pinto was no beauty queen either, but next to a Gremlin I think it looks pretty good.

Agreed. Kind’a sophisticated even - in a Don Knots/Barney Fife kind of way. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

Who said I wanted it for looks? I just want to paint it to look like a shoe /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

Ah, good man, function over form. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

I have a friend who thinks the BMW Z3 coupe looks like a shoe, he hated the thing. I took him with me when I did the ultimate drive for the Susan G Komen breast cancer foundation, where I got to drive the M version of that car. What a hoot that car was, a German hotrod. He was liking it a bit more after that.

A buddy here has a Z8... Yikes! Only problem with it is: there's no place to USE it properly /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Keep in mind that a Ferrari 308GT4 and 308 GTB/GTS are very different cars.

The 308GT4 was originally a "Dino" rather than Ferrari. It was a 2+2 styled by Bertone...It is one the least desirable Ferraris (along with the style-challenged 365 GTC4.) The Mondial replaced the GT4 as Ferrari's V8 2+2. Neither have the beauty of the 308 GTB or GTS, nor do they have the V12 cache.

They are both heavier than the Pininfarina-styled 308GTB, so they aren't quite as fast. And considering the 308GTBs made before 1983 would lose a stoplight race to my Toyota Avalon, one shouldn't count on a Mondial or GT4 being fast by modern standards.
Since the GT4s and Mondal coupes have been traditionally cheap, they are usually the most abused. They need the same maintenance as a 308GTB, but seldom get it.

In general, one should never buy a Ferrari that "needs TLC." Actually doing the engine-out labor isn't that bad, but the other things that fail when not maintained can add up to tens of thousands of dollars.

That's a nice ride! There's a silver one I see all the time parked right out on the street here in downtown New Brunswick. I believe the owner is the proprietor of the Old Bay restaurant, a great New Orleans style pub that we often hit for lunch (well used to, they don't do lunch any longer /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif). The car is gorgeous, silver, and IMO one of the prettiest Bimmers ever built.

I must be one of the only people walking the planet that likes the 365 GTC/4. I don't think it's a pretty car in the same way that a 275 or Daytona is pretty, but I don't mind it, it's very 70's looking and muscular. I certainly wouldn't kick it out of my garage, it is quad cam V-12 powered after all, worth it just to listen to it scream.

That's my fascination with 'em. The V-12's are about the most elegant mill Ferrari ever made IMO. I've worked on and driven a bunch of Ferreri's but the V-12's make the SEXY noises to my old tin ears.

One of my garage ashtrays is a V-12 piston, #12... other one's a 350 Chebby. heh.

Doctor down the street has a Mercedes SL with the 12-cylinder Mercedes engine...we were both filling up our SL's not long ago & I generously offered to swap...he said he's gonna be buried in it....I offered to let his wife use my SL for his coffin in exchange....

Good, Tony...He'll be "distracted" and likely wouldn't notice. Hope that works for ya... BTW, the airflow meters on that 12 are only replaced in pairs (they're 'coded' to one-another) and ONE is $3k+... Just so ya know /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Gotta love v-12 parts prices - hehehehe
