Has anybody read the new Thomas Paine biography?

No, but I will buy it for reading in the fall. Probably be cheaper then anyhow.

Right, Paul. Go thru the book pile in Costco or Sams' in October. It'll be there for lack of interest, methinks. I've scored a number of really good, informative books from those bins.

Praise mass indifference! It makes important reading affordable.

I've already spent this year's book budget, and am saving titles for next year, what a backlog!

I need a bigger budget, this years' was spent by the middle of February... and it looks like next year I'll have to carry some over to the following year.... :frown:

And I've got a pile (or two, or three, or four) of reading to get through.....

Costco or even Borders after a month or two. They have started to discount sooner to keep up with the Costco's and Sam's Clubs.

Yeah, 'smits disallows actual "book store" visits here... I never fail to find *something* I just can't leave without.
At least with the "discount" bins I get MORE titles for th' same money. :smirk:

Whenever we visit my Welsh in-laws I excuse myself for a day-trip to:

Hay-on-Wye, a small town (village, even) nearby.

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:] Bookshops in and around Hay-on-Wye

Hay-on-Wye has become world famous for its secondhand and antiquarian bookshops. At present there are approximately thirty major bookshops in the town some specialising whilst others carry general stock. [/QUOTE]

And they've other shops that are pretty nice- a good cookshop, a lovely little candy shop, art sellers. And a goodly collection of hostelries and eateries.

A great place to visit, well off the beaten path and great scenery to see, too.

And the people are pretty nice, too... unless you're married to one, then... well, it has its ups and downs.... :jester: :grouphug:

A whole town, just full of bookshops....

And, for you Lotus lovers, the Elan Valley is pretty close by, for a scenic drive....
