We have the car show coming up this Saturday, that two of us
started 7 years ago,as many of you may be aware of.
Anyway,I've been out telling people about it,& we get some
donations from various people/businesses.
After getting the exhaust manifold off of the '67 MGB GT,I took
it to the local machine shop that I deal with, whose owner has a '72 eType
Jag that he inherited from his Father, whom I dealt with before him.
When I picked up the manifold,he told me "no charge",& wrote
"Void" on the receipt, saying he would absorb it into his VERY generous
donation.I thought that he meant for me to add what I'd pay for the bill,to
add up to a total donation, but when I looked at the check,he covered the
whole thing.
He also knows that I volunteer at the local fire department, which
might have influenced his decision,& for which we aren't supposed to take
favors because of belonging.
I'm considering adding what I would have paid him,and donating it
in his businesses name,as I don't want any recognition,& want to do the
right thing. The charity that's the beneficiary of the show this year is
the Humboldt Breast & Gyn Health Project, which mainly does breast cancer
testing/support.
What should I do?
